Microservices Chapter Lead (Athens,Crete)
Role purpose:
The API Dev. Chapter Lead is the Product Owner of Skills Development, who builds expertise in the chapter and develops chapter members. Enthusiastic about transferring knowledge to others, chapter leads provide coaching and oversee personal development. In addition to leading a chapter community, the Chapter Lead is also a member of a Squad, completing Squad work at 30% of their time, thus will work closely with software, QA, and systems engineers to understand requirements and prototype, architect, implement, operate and update server-side solutions accordingly. The Chapter Lead does not direct squad work – this comes from the Product Owner and the Squad Product Backlog.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership:
• As a Squad Member (30%):
- Contribute, as member of an agile team, in the research, analysis, design development and testing of solutions that best suit business and technology strategy.
- Work as part of a team and develop highly performant microservices based on the JVM.
- Develop scalable solutions - use the latest in Tech to handle large traffic spikes and many millions of REST calls per microservice per day.
- Ensure technical integrity and quality control consistency throughout the development life cycle.
• As a Leader (70%):
- Guide a community of Experts that are working within squads / scrums.
- Work with the Tribe and Tech Lead to provide workforce plans for recruitment and development.
- Organize interactions between the members of the chapter to nurture best practice and encourage knowledge & tool sharing.
- Act as a supporting leader, rather than a line manager, aiming at maturing the organisation readiness, vs controlling the work.
- Provide guidance and harmonization of chapter best-practices (Chapter principles).
- Act as a mentor for Expert members of the chapter, helping them grow in expertise and experience new areas.
- Play a pivotal role in inspiring and motivating everyone in the chapter to be the best they can be.

Must have technical / professional qualifications:
• Experience in Coaching/ Mentoring others for at least 2-3 years.
• Ability to evaluate, lead and adapt to change, shifting demands in different situations.
• Capable of applying a range of techniques to support facilitation, training and teaching to guide and manage a group event to ensure that objectives are met effectively.
• At least 2-3 years of experience in design and development of RESTful APIs using a cloud-friendly technology like Quarkus, Spring Boot, or any other JVM-based technology
• Have a deep understanding of RESTful principles (WSDL understanding is a plus, but not required)
• Familiarity with Document Storages
• Have a grasp of Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA), Microservices, and distributed systems
• Be able to work in a fast-moving team which values communication & team spirit
