What you’ll do

  • Define the architecture and planning guidelines for Vodafone Group’s international IP Backhaul Networks, enabling resilient, fast-converging and fully optimised IP networks. 
  • Set the technology principles and roadmap for the design of IP/MPLS networks across engineering and service domains, aligned with product and business requirements for Mobile and Fixed services. 
  • Set the technology principles and roadmap for Software Defined Networking across engineering, transport and service domains, aligned with product and business requirements for Mobile and Fixed services. 
  • Define the technology principles for Intent-Based Connectivity Services, including standardisation of data model structures and microservices that enable the orchestration of Transport Connectivity services in line with strategy. 
  • Provide thought leadership and act as the recognised SME for multi-service networking, working with SME and architecture counterparts across technology domains to propose and champion effective converged solutions that meet internal business and external customer needs. 
  • Act as the primary technology lead in NPD (New Product Development) activities for the development and implementation of market-leading Mobile and Fixed services. 
  • Manage key interfaces across OpCos, Group Product Management, Group Enterprise Technology, Sales Channels, Business Strategy, Customer Services, IT and Supplier Management. 
  • Contribute to the budget planning cycle, with a focus on KTLO and Transform. 
  • Define standard KPIs for Transport IP Backhaul network traffic and efficiency, and review deviations from plan with Delivery and Operations teams. 
  • Own the analysis, planning and documentation of complex transformation initiatives across Transport Backhaul Networks. 

Who you are

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field. 
  • At least 5 years of experience in IP architecture, design, testing or operations across Internet and Enterprise environments, supported by strong architectural capability and a solid understanding of IP/MPLS operational and network design requirements. 
  • Extensive knowledge of Internet and IP/MPLS network technologies, including MPLS (LDP, RSVP, fast reroute and Segment Routing), BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, Ethernet (QoS and OAM), L2 and L3 VPNs, IP-QoS, BNGs, IP Multicast, PPP, L2TP, third-party Ethernet and broadband access products, MEF services (E-LAN, E-Tree and E-Line), Internet peering and transit, RIPE, IPv6, NFV and Security Gateway. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Software Defined Networking technologies, including RESTCONF, NETCONF, PCEP, BGP-LS, gRPC Telemetry and YANG, complemented by programming and development skills using tools such as Python, Ansible and Puppet. 
  • Understanding of hardware and software characteristics and lifecycles, network features in live environments, traffic and KPI indicators across IP and IP/MPLS networks, and security best practices across service-provider IP/MPLS domains. 
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant industry forums, standards and market trends, combined with thought leadership on emerging technologies such as Software Defined Networking and Network Functions Virtualisation, and the ability to assess how regulatory requirements and industry standards influence technology direction. 
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation and relationship-management skills, including experience engaging with key external customers and communicating confidently with senior management in a multinational environment. 
  • Leadership and the ability to drive technology choices through to implementation, while promoting innovation, simplicity, speed and trust. 
  • CCIE certification, or an equivalent qualification, is preferred.
