About this Role
What you will do
- Provide Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 operational support for database platforms, managing incidents, problems, and service requests in line with agreed SLAs.
- Perform technical investigations into database performance incidents, identify root causes, and propose or implement sustainable solutions.
- Design, configure, and implement database components for new and existing solutions, ensuring readiness for production environments.
- Support the transition of new platforms and solutions from build to run, ensuring operational stability and knowledge transfer.
- Develop scripts and programs to extend IT solution functionality and automate recurring operational activities.
- Optimise existing database solutions through architectural improvements, tuning activities, and software upgrades to meet evolving business needs.
- Ensure database integrity, security, and performance parameters in accordance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
- Actively support transformation initiatives and technology refresh programmes aimed at increasing service availability, reducing downtime, and improving performance.
- Perform proactive maintenance based on monitoring tools, automated alerts, and system notifications.
- Participate in shift work, stand-by duties, and overtime when required to ensure service continuity.
- Contribute to the achievement of performance indicators agreed with service owners and support project delivery with high quality standards.
Who you are
- Bring over three years of experience supporting databases in production environments.
- Have advanced expertise in database administration, particularly with Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.
- Demonstrate strong skills in SQL tuning and performance optimisation.
- Are proficient in PL/SQL and shell scripting on UNIX/Linux platforms.
- Have hands-on experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, Grid/Cloud Control, RMAN, Data Pump, and related technologies.
- Understand ITIL principles and IT Service Management frameworks, including ISO 20000 concepts.
- Possess good knowledge of SOX principles and general information security practices.
- Are well organised, able to manage multiple priorities, and deliver results under pressure and tight timelines.
- Communicate clearly in English, both written and spoken, at a fluent level.
- Work effectively within remote and distributed teams and maintain a customer-focused mindset.
