About this Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated IoT 2nd Line Voice & SMSC Engineer to join our Network Application Operations team within VOIS Romania. This role focuses on the development, maintenance, and optimisation of complex IT and telecom systems that enable enterprise customers to achieve connectivity and smart automation through the Vodafone Global Internet of Things platform. Based in Bucharest, the role plays a key part in ensuring high availability, performance, and continuous improvement of critical customer-facing services, while supporting the transition of solutions from development into live operations.

What you will do

  • Develop, test, implement, and maintain scripts and software solutions used by Vodafone IoT enterprise customers.
  • Ensure network, software, and tooling systems operate reliably, supporting critical applications to minimise downtime and service disruption.
  • Modify and adapt software solutions to enhance performance, scalability, and customer experience.
  • Review technical and functional specifications and translate them into effective hardware and software implementations.
  • Perform impact analysis and design technical solutions to resolve incidents and complex technical issues.
  • Provide high-level 2nd Line technical support for network applications and systems, including participation in on-call rotas outside business hours.
  • Implement changes and maintenance activities in line with defined procedures, including documentation of configurations and code changes.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of operational documentation, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and develop scripts to improve efficiency and system performance.
  • Work in line with operational agreements and service performance indicators such as response time, speed, and error rates.

Who you are

  • An experienced telecom or IT professional with hands-on exposure to Telecom Core services, including CS, VoLTE (IMS), and SMS services.
  • Comfortable working with Linux/UNIX command-line environments across any distribution.
  • Experienced with Telecom Core Circuit Switch technologies, SS7 protocols, and platforms such as SMSC, NGIN, CSDB, HLR, and HSS, with
  • knowledge of 3G/4G packet-switched networks.
  • Knowledgeable in SIP and Diameter protocols and IMS interfaces.
  • Familiar with virtualisation and orchestration tools such as VMware, Docker, or Kubernetes.
  • Confident in IP networking concepts, equipment, and protocols.
  • Experienced with SOAP and REST APIs, microservices, SOA, and web servers such as Apache.
  • Able to script or program in languages such as Bash, Perl, Python, Java, or C/C++.
  • Analytical and methodical in solving advanced technical problems and implementing sustainable solutions.
  • Comfortable working in a multinational environment and communicating in English at B2–C1 level.
  • Ideally certified or knowledgeable in areas such as CCNA, LPIC1, Oracle Certified Associate, ITIL, and packet capture tools like Wireshark or tcpdump.
