About this Role

We are seeking a Network Operations Engineer (1st Line) to provide first-line technical support and operational services for live telecommunications IT systems across Vodafone operating companies and joint ventures. This role is ideal for individuals with a technical background in telecommunications, networking, software systems, or IT operations who are passionate about maintaining service quality, resolving technical issues, and supporting the performance of critical telecom applications and network platforms.
The role involves monitoring, troubleshooting, configuring, testing, and optimising telecommunications systems across fixed and mobile network environments. You will work with software and hardware solutions, investigate incidents, implement changes, and collaborate with higher technical support levels to ensure timely resolution of complex issues.

What you’ll do

  • Provide first-line technical support for live telecommunications IT systems and applications.
  • Monitor, investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve software and hardware incidents within defined service levels.
  • Develop and customise software components and support the implementation of new functionalities.
  • Configure, integrate, and optimise network software parameters to meet defined quality standards.
  • Support testing activities within test environments and assist with production deployments.
  • Identify faults affecting GSM, UMTS, LTE, 5G, and fixed network services and perform root cause analysis.
  • Perform software debugging and technical investigations using telecommunications-specific tools and methodologies.
  • Carry out emergency troubleshooting and network reconfiguration activities when service restoration is required.
  • Evaluate system performance and implement optimisation actions to improve service stability and efficiency.
  • Conduct preventive system health checks using dedicated software tools to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Escalate complex incidents to Senior 1st Line Engineers or 2nd Line support teams where appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, technical procedures, operational standards, and health and safety requirements.

Who you are

  • Completed higher technical education in Electronics and Telecommunications, Automation and Computers, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Additional European language skills are considered an advantage.
  • Knowledge of operating systems, databases, and IT applications used within telecommunications environments.
  • Understanding of GPON, FTTH, and networking technologies.
  • Ability to analyse and troubleshoot software and hardware issues.
  • Problem-solving mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic operational environment with shifting priorities.
  • Comfortable participating in shift-based operations, including night, weekend, and on-call activities where required.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
