The role will work closely with product managers, business analysts, engineering teams, QA teams and wider stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions. A key focus will be defining software architecture, guiding development teams, supporting the migration from monolithic applications to microservices and ensuring that solutions align with VOIS technical standards, security requirements and strategic objectives.
This is a senior technical role suited to someone with strong software architecture experience, hands-on development background, cloud and containerisation knowledge, and the ability to guide teams through complex technical decisions in an Agile and DevOps environment.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the design and architecture of software systems, ensuring scalability, security, performance and maintainability.
  • Define architectural blueprints, technology stacks and design principles that meet business and technical requirements.
  • Lead the decomposition of monolithic applications into microservices and oversee gradual re-platforming activities.
  • Align solution designs with established microservices reference architecture and organisational technology standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to development teams, supporting the adoption of architectural best practices and coding standards.
  • Collaborate with product managers, business analysts and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, frameworks and industry trends, recommending fit-for-purpose improvements where relevant.
  • Conduct code reviews to support code quality, maintainability and adherence to architectural guidelines.
  • Design and oversee integration between internal systems, third-party services and data platforms.
  • Ensure seamless data flow, interoperability and reliable integration across distributed systems.
  • Create and maintain architectural documentation, including diagrams, design patterns, technical specifications and operating guidance.
  • Identify technical and delivery risks across the software development lifecycle and define mitigation strategies.
  • Analyse and optimise system performance, scalability and reliability.
  • Identify bottlenecks and propose practical solutions to improve efficiency and resilience.
  • Collaborate with QA teams to ensure architecture supports robust testing practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ensure software solutions comply with applicable industry regulations, security standards and internal policies.
  • Support onboarding and integration of new team members by preparing and delivering knowledge-transfer sessions.
  • Build technical redundancy within the team through clear documentation, shared operating procedures and architecture walkthroughs.
  • Contribute to team, department and company initiatives, including investigations, analysis, process documentation and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide technical support, mentoring and guidance to colleagues across experience levels.

Who you are

  • Significant experience in software development, with practical experience in a software architecture role.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.
  • Strong understanding of software design patterns, microservices architecture and distributed systems.

  • Familiarity with database management systems, including SQL and NoSQL technologies.
  • Good understanding of data modelling principles.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools, automated delivery pipelines and modern software release practices.
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, TOGAF, Zachman or similar would be beneficial.
  • Experience in telecom and cloud environments would be an advantage.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
