About this Role

We are seeking a Data Governance Specialist to support Vodafone’s Group Data Management Risk programme. You will enable markets and Group functions to assess how data governance controls are implemented across systems, processes and data domains, helping them interpret Group expectations, review evidence, identify gaps and build practical maturity improvement plans. The role helps reduce data management risk by supporting consistent control adoption, clearer ownership and stronger evidence of governance maturity.
This is a practical role focused on enabling markets to apply Group data governance and risk requirements consistently, while providing structured review, challenge and support. You will work with the Group DMR Delivery Lead, other VOIS programme roles, Group Data & Analytics, local market teams and system or business owners to help local teams identify gaps, shape remediation plans and embed sustainable governance practices within their own operating environments.

What you’ll do

  • Enable and support market-led Data Management Risk assessments across agreed functions, systems or data domains, ensuring a consistent approach to evidence review, gap identification and remediation planning.
  • Review market evidence and constructively challenge where needed to confirm whether ownership, stewardship, critical data elements, metadata, classification, lineage and data quality controls are defined, implemented and operating as expected.
  • Work with business, technology and data stakeholders to understand data flows, ownership boundaries, control responsibilities and evidence requirements.
  • Guide markets in adopting governance tooling, including data catalogue, metadata, lineage and ownership capabilities, ensuring priority data assets are documented and maintained to agreed standards.
  • Help markets identify governance maturity gaps and translate them into clear actions, accountable owners, timelines and measurable improvement plans.
  • Provide high-quality inputs into programme reporting, scorecards and governance forums, including findings, risks, dependencies and remediation progress.
  • Promote practical understanding of data governance and Data Management Risk requirements across business and technical teams.

Who you are

  • Experience in data governance, data management risk, controls, compliance or a related discipline within a complex organisation.
  • Experience enabling business or market teams to assess, own and improve governance maturity, rather than delivering change on their behalf.
  • Strong knowledge of data ownership, stewardship, critical data elements, metadata, classification, lineage, data quality and data lifecycle management.
  • Ability to translate policies, standards and control requirements into practical operating models, assessment activity and measurable actions.
  • Confidence reviewing evidence, identifying gaps, documenting findings and supporting remediation plans in a structured and traceable way.
  • Experience with data governance tooling or data catalogue platforms, including metadata management, lineage or ownership workflows.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence constructively across business, technology, risk and data teams.
  • Fluent in English, with strong PowerPoint and Excel skills to support reporting, analysis and stakeholder communication.

What's in it for you

  • Opportunity to support a priority Group-level Data Management Risk programme that enables markets and functions to strengthen governance maturity and reduce data management risk.
  • A role that combines data governance expertise with risk reduction, control assessment, stakeholder engagement and market enablement.
  • Exposure to enterprise-scale data governance practices, including ownership, metadata, lineage, catalogue adoption, data quality and remediation tracking.
  • Chance to work as part of a focused VOIS delivery team supporting Group DMR, alongside delivery, change, communications, training and scorecard specialists

What skills you will learn

  • Supporting market-led Data Management Risk assessments, including evidence review, gap validation, constructive challenge and remediation planning.
  • Enterprise data governance operating model implementation across markets, systems and functions.
  • Data ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, catalogue adoption and data quality control practices at scale.
  • Control effectiveness assessment, maturity tracking and governance reporting.
