About this Role
We are seeking an Automation Software Engineer to join our Network Evolution and Automation team. This role is pivotal in developing global automation solutions that enhance the programmability of our Transport and Transmission networks. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and implementation of SDN controllers, integrate them into multi-vendor environments, and support strategic decisions through cost-benefit analysis. This is a high-impact role influencing technical choices across international and local networks.
What you’ll do
- Develop software for SDN controllers and network technologies.
- Define architecture and protocols for full Transport SDN integration.
- Design, test, and document use cases in multi-vendor environments.
- Create testing procedures for SDN controllers within lab environments.
- Support analysis, testing, and implementation of new technologies across Vodafone Markets and Group Functions.
- Participate in Agile projects and contribute to product roadmaps.
- Scout emerging technologies and vendors to drive innovation.
- Assist in strategic decision-making through cost-benefit analysis.
- Continuously improve development processes and contribute to automation use case roadmaps.
Who you are
- Strong background in Python and microservices development (Flask/Django).
- Experienced in Software Defined Networking (SDN) and network technologies.
- Proficient in SDN protocols (REST, RESTCONF, NETCONF) and YANG data models.
- Skilled in API automation testing using frameworks like Pytest or Unittest.
- Familiar with software engineering best practices and Agile methodologies.
- Holds IP certification (e.g., CCNA or equivalent).
- Demonstrates drive, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective communicator with cultural awareness and a collaborative mindset.
- Knowledge of transport IP protocols (BGP, Segment Routing, PCEP) and optical transmission technologies (DWDM, OTN) is a plus.
- Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud architectures is desirable.
