About this Role

We are seeking a Data Governance Expert to architect, engineer, and embed cloud‑native data governance and data quality capabilities into Vodafone’s Next Generation Data Infrastructure (NGDI). This role is pivotal in ensuring trusted, compliant, and high‑value data across platforms by integrating governance directly into data pipelines. The individual will work closely with data engineers, architects, and subject matter experts to automate metadata, quality, and compliance controls, while shaping the Networks Data Model and enabling scalable, governance‑by‑design solutions.

What you’ll do

  • Architect and build cloud‑native data governance components, including metadata services, lineage extraction, validation frameworks, and automated access controls.
  • Embed governance‑by‑design principles into NGDI data pipelines, integrating policies, classifications, role‑based access controls, encryption, and quality checks across ingestion, transformation, and serving layers.
  • Design and implement automated data quality and metadata solutions, including profiling, anomaly detection, schema drift handling, and remediation workflows.
  • Monitor and optimise governance performance, reliability, and cloud cost efficiency, ensuring resilient and scalable solutions.
  • Act as a senior technical authority for data governance within NGDI, coaching engineers, contributing to design reviews, and leading governance adoption initiatives.
  • Contribute to architecture standards, infrastructure‑as‑code approaches, backlog prioritisation, and acceptance criteria for governance and compliance controls.

Who you are

  • An experienced data and cloud professional with strong hands‑on expertise in building production‑grade solutions on Google Cloud Platform or equivalent cloud environments.
  • Proficient in engineering languages and tools such as Python, Scala, SQL, APIs, containerisation, serverless architectures, and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform preferred).
  • Knowledgeable in data governance, metadata management, data cataloguing tools (such as Collibra), lineage, semantic modelling, and data quality frameworks.
  • Capable of translating privacy, security, and regulatory requirements into practical technical implementations.
  • A trusted collaborator who can influence and guide cross‑functional teams, applying critical thinking and sound judgement to complex data challenges.

Not a perfect fit?

Concerned you may not meet every requirement? Vodafone is committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. What's in it for you

  • The opportunity to work on large‑scale, cloud‑native data platforms that support Vodafone’s global digital transformation.
  • Exposure to advanced data governance, quality, and automation practices within a complex, enterprise environment.
  • Collaboration with diverse, international teams across technology, data, and security domains.
  • A role that combines deep technical ownership with strategic influence on how data is governed and trusted.

What skills you will learn

  • Advanced automation techniques for data governance and data quality at scale.
  • Practical application of privacy and security requirements within cloud‑native data architectures.
  • Designing and evolving enterprise data models and metadata frameworks.
  • Influencing technical standards and adoption across large engineering organisations.
