About this Role
What you’ll do
- Develop software solutions for network technologies and interfaces connected to Software Defined Networking (SDN) controllers.
- Design, implement, test and document automation use cases within multi-vendor network environments.
- Develop and maintain testing procedures for SDN controllers integrated across the end-to-end SDN technology stack and laboratory environments.
- Define architectures, interfaces and protocols required to integrate SDN controllers into transport network automation solutions.
- Support the analysis, testing and implementation of new technologies across Vodafone markets and Group-managed networks.
- Participate in agile delivery teams to build scalable and reliable automation products and services.
- Contribute to product roadmaps, backlogs and automation strategies.
- Collaborate with technology leads to define development frameworks, programming languages and solution architectures.
- Identify emerging technologies and vendor capabilities that support innovation and network evolution.
- Contribute to transport network strategy by supporting technical assessments and cost-benefit evaluations.
- Drive continuous improvement in software development processes and engineering practices.
- Apply modern software engineering principles, including documentation, code quality standards and maintainable application design.
Who you are
Essential Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of software development experience, including development of microservices using Python and Flask and/or Django.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with network technologies, including exposure to Software Defined Networking (SDN).
- Strong understanding of SDN-related technologies and protocols, including REST APIs, RESTCONF, NETCONF and YANG data models.
- Experience in API automation testing and automated testing frameworks such as pytest, unittest or equivalent approaches.
- Strong knowledge of software engineering best practices, including object-oriented programming, code quality, linting and technical documentation.
- Experience working within agile delivery methodologies.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and version control systems.
- Professional IP networking certification such as CCIE or an equivalent qualification.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Knowledge of transport IP protocols and technologies such as BGP, Segment Routing and PCEP within multi-vendor environments including Nokia, Juniper and Cisco.
- Understanding of networking and optical transmission technologies such as DWDM and OTN across vendors including Nokia, Huawei and Ciena.
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Exposure to cloud-native architectures and cloud platforms.
