Role Profile & Key Responsibilities
Role Purpose:
The Manager: IMT and Cross-Border Payments is responsible for driving the growth, profitability, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance of Vodacom M-Pesa's cross-border financial services portfolio.
The role will lead the development and execution of strategies that expand international remittance corridors, enable innovative cross-border payment use cases, strengthen partnerships with Money Transfer Operators (MTOs), Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), Banks, Fintechs and Payment Hubs, and ensure seamless customer experiences across inbound and outbound payment journeys.
The position serves as the commercial and operational custodian of the business, balancing revenue growth, customer value proposition, partner management, treasury optimization, risk management, and regulatory compliance to position M-Pesa as the preferred cross-border payments platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Business Growth & Strategy:

- Develop and execute the cross-border payments growth strategy aligned with M-Pesa's financial services objectives.
- Identify new revenue opportunities across international remittances, wallet transfers, merchant payments, and emerging payment corridors.
- Monitor market trends, customer needs, competitor activities, and regulatory developments.
- Operations & Transaction Processing: Ensure smooth end-to-end operation of cross-border payment services. Monitoring transaction success rates and service availability.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensuring strict adherence to anti-money laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), and financial regulations to mitigate risks, including monitoring for suspicious activities.
- Relationship Management: Onboarding and managing relationships with International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs), payment hubs, and banking partners to grow the business.
- Reconciliation & Reporting: Verifying and reconciling daily transactions, managing partner accounts, and preparing reports (daily, weekly, monthly) for management.
- Compliance & Risk Management

- Enforce Know Your Customer (KYC), Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD), and Anti-Money Laundering/Counter Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) policies.
- Assess and mitigate operational, financial, fraud, and regulatory risks.
- Ensure compliance with Bank of Tanzania regulations and international payment requirements.
Qualification, Skills, Competencies and Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, Actuarial Sciences, Finance and Banking or a related field.
- Strong knowledge and experience with cross-border payments operations.
- Good understanding of operational risk in mobile money/banking sector, KYC, AML/CFT on remittance business.
- High responsibility and integrity.
