Role purpose:
• To lead M-Pesa finance operations and business excellence by ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls, effective shared-service governance, product profitability insight, and continuous process improvement.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership:
• Financial reporting and planning: Lead monthly management accounts, annual financial statements, budgets, forecasts, long-term plans, variance analysis, and reporting to executive, board, and group stakeholders.
• Product profitability and margin management: Oversee margin accounting, revenue recognition, cost allocation, receivables, and profitability analysis for Mobile Money products and channels.
• Business excellence and process improvement: Define and deliver the business excellence roadmap, improving end-to-end processes, strengthening controls, and driving automation to reduce manual work and improve service quality.
• Shared services, risk and compliance: Govern shared-service delivery for procure-to-pay, cash management, travel and expenses, asset accounting, tax inputs, reconciliations, regulatory compliance, and audit actions.
Stakeholder leadership and strategic execution: Partner with Commercial, Product, Technology, Risk, Operations, Customer Experience, regulators, auditors, banks, and service providers to support business performance and lead a high-performing team. Key performance indicators:
• Monthly, quarterly, and annual finance reports submitted accurately and on time.
• Budget, forecast, and product-margin performance delivered within agreed targets.
• Shared-service SLAs, reconciliations, audit actions, and compliance controls delivered within agreed timelines.
• Business excellence roadmap milestones achieved, including measurable reduction in manual processes through automation.
Core competencies, knowledge and experience
• Strategic thinking, business acumen, and commercial judgement.
• Financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and product profitability analysis.
• Data analysis, performance reporting, and insight-led decision support.
• Process improvement, business transformation, ERP systems, and automation delivery.
• Stakeholder management, communication, influencing, leadership, and people development.
Technical/professional qualifications:
Essential
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognised institution.
• Minimum of five years’ relevant experience in finance operations, financial reporting, management accounting, budgeting, or forecasting.
• Strong experience in financial controls, reconciliations, compliance, and performance reporting.
• Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
Desired:
• Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent.
• Experience in Big Four audit, mobile money, fintech, financial services, ERP systems, automation, or digital transformation.
