Role Purpose:

The Physical Security Specialist is responsible for safeguarding company assets, personnel, and facilities by implementing and maintaining robust physical security measures. This role involves conducting security reviews, risk assessments, and audits across all critical sites, ensuring compliance with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.


As part of the role, the Physical Security Specialist will conduct physical security reviews of all key locations owned and operated by Vodafone Ireland, producing detailed risk and threat assessments. The Physical Security Specialist will produce the physical security review program, considering site profiles and security categories, and the enforcement of the program within the scope of company requirements. 


The Physical Security Specialist will advise the business on remedial actions following an investigation or physical security breach to prevent another incident from occurring. The Physical Security Specialist will review best practice and standards and develop a cost-effective approach to maintain levels of physical security balanced against commercial objectives.  The Physical Specialist will ensure physical security standards are maintained without impacting on customer experience.


The Physical Security Specialist will ensure support of our business goals in ‘Customers’, ‘Growth’ & ‘Simplicity’. 
Customers: Ensure we protect our infrastructure & our customers from security threats, so we retain their trust & confidence by providing guidance on effective & practical security best practices and policy developments. 
Growth: Ensure investment is proportionate & appropriate to the security threats and are aligned with Vodafone’s risk appetite to ensure the business continues to meet its growth targets. 
Simplicity: Manage and measure the effectiveness of our security controls by conducting gap analysis, assessments, and audits to optimise our safeguards (preferably via automation) that are deemed too complex or ineffective.

Essence of Role – Key Accountabilities:

Production and maintenance of an annual plan detailing physical security reviews/audit schedules for all Vodafone sites which is aligned to the relevant security regulations including NIS2.

Ensure physical security controls extend to environmental resilience by implementing and monitoring measures that prevent loss or disruption of network and information systems due to utility failures (power, water, HVAC, telecoms), including redundancy planning, emergency supply contracts, and fail-safe mechanisms, while collaborating closely with the Tech Resilience Policy owner to align with NIS2 compliance requirements.

Complete physical security audits as part of a cyclical programme on all Vodafone sites, the frequency of which is dependent on criticality and security category.

Maintain risk register of physical security review findings and work with relevant stakeholders to drive physical security improvements. 

Provide advice to Supply Chain/Property on physical security requirements related to suppliers or outsource partners. 

Represent Vodafone at sites on the commissioning of all security works and services involving any aspect of the Vodafone estate.

Advise projects as required on all aspects of preventative security controls relating to individual projects and provide resolutions to security issues as appropriate.

Provide physical security review of high-risk personnel’s private residence if requested. Make recommendations on improvement opportunities and suppliers of security products.

Respond to, and attend, all locations impacted by major incidents and provide post incident support to both victims and law enforcement. 

As directed, and in accordance with Vodafone policy, provide both a comprehensive security plan and physical presence at events involving members of the company.

On a rota, on call to provide advice and respond to incidents requiring security intervention. 

We Are Looking For You, If You Have:

Essential
Physical Security management experience, including knowledge of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Access Control, and CCTV systems.
Knowledge and experience of auditing ISO27001, NIST Frameworks, or any other government security standards highly desirable. 
Knowledge of physical security and environmental requirements outlined in security regulations such as NIS2.
Telecommunications organisation experience would be an advantage. 
Experience and ability to influence stakeholders and manage sensitive discussions is a necessary skill. 
Experience using Governance Risk Compliance (GRC) tools. 
Risk management experience balancing business goals with security needs. 
Must be able to think and act in the wider risk context rather than just “tick box” compliance. 
Experience of conducting or supporting audits. 
Minimum 3 years of experience in physical security roles; 1+ years in a similar position.
Experienced in providing Executive Production reviews, providing concise and accurate feedback.
Able to deliver event security reviews and ensure the business receives the correct level of protection to brand and personnel.
Ability to self-start and work unsupervised.

 

Desirable
Experience in internal audit, project management, crisis management, ISO 27001.
Ability to prioritise and deliver accurate results to tight deadlines.
Professional certification such as CPP or equivalent.
