Role Purpose

The Senior IT Delivery Owner is accountable for the end-to-end delivery of technology outcomes within a Fixed Value Stream, translating business priorities into delivered value through effective planning, execution, governance, release readiness, and benefits realisation.

This role leads delivery across cross-functional teams and delivery partners, ensuring work is aligned to agreed business priorities, measurable KPIs, and customer outcomes. The primary focus of the role is delivery against business outcomes and KPIs. Agile, Lean, and value stream practices are important enablers of flow, transparency, and responsiveness of delivery.

The role also holds direct people management responsibility, building capability, setting clear expectations, and creating a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Essence of Role – Key Accountabilities

  • Own the end-to-end delivery of initiatives and changes within the Fixed Value Stream, from demand shaping through planning, execution, release, and value realisation.

  • Partner closely with business stakeholders to understand strategic priorities, customer needs, and commercial goals, and translate them into clear delivery plans and actionable commitments.

  • Be accountable for delivery against agreed business outcomes and KPIs, including measures such as time to market, predictability, quality, adoption, operational readiness, and realised business value.

  • Lead prioritisation and sequencing of delivery in line with business value, delivery capacity, dependencies, risk, and readiness.

  • Establish and maintain strong delivery governance, including status reporting, risk and issue management, dependency tracking, escalation management, decision support, and transparent communication to stakeholders.

  • Ensure effective coordination across product, business, architecture, engineering, testing, operations, vendors, and support teams to enable joined-up delivery.

  • Own release and implementation readiness, ensuring that solutions are deployed in a controlled way, transitioned effectively into production, and supported through hypercare and issue resolution.

  • Drive focus on value realisation, ensuring that delivery does not stop at release, but continues through measurement of business impact, lessons learned, and continuous improvement.

  • Lead the resolution of blockers and delivery risks, acting as the escalation point where decisions, support, or cross-functional alignment are required.

  • Maintain a clear view of capacity, roadmap, dependencies, and delivery health, using data and insight to improve flow and delivery performance over time.

  • Use Agile, Lean, and value stream practices pragmatically to improve speed, quality, and transparency—ensuring that ways of working support delivery rather than becoming the objective themselves.

  • Build strong and credible relationships with business leaders and stakeholders, acting as a trusted delivery partner who brings clarity, challenge, and execution focus.

  • Lead, manage, and develop direct reports, including objective setting, performance management, coaching, development planning, succession thinking, and capability growth.

  • Create a high-performance environment where teams are clear on priorities, accountable for outcomes, encouraged to raise risks early, and supported to continuously improve.

  • Promote a culture of ownership, delivery discipline, collaboration, and psychological safety, balancing pace with quality, control, and people leadership.

  • Support the evolution of the delivery model by identifying opportunities to simplify governance, improve flow, remove bottlenecks, and increase delivery effectiveness.

We Are Looking For You, If You Have

Essential

  • Proven experience leading complex IT delivery across cross-functional teams, with accountability for outcomes rather than coordination alone.

  • Strong experience translating business needs into delivered technology value in a structured, outcome-focused way.

  • Demonstrated ownership of delivery KPIs and operational performance measures such as time to market, predictability, lead time, cycle time, quality, release readiness, and benefits realization.

  • Experience leading delivery in a value stream, product, programme, or portfolio-oriented environment.

  • Strong stakeholder management capability, including the ability to influence senior business and technology stakeholders, align priorities, and drive decisions.

  • Strong understanding of delivery governance, planning, dependency management, release management, implementation control, and risk/issue escalation.

  • Experience operating across the full delivery lifecycle, from demand shaping and planning through build, test, release, production readiness, and post-release support.

  • Direct people management experience, including performance conversations, coaching, team development, and capability building.

  • Strong commercial and business awareness, with the ability to connect delivery activity to customer outcomes, operational efficiency, revenue, cost, or risk impact.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear updates, challenge constructively, and create shared understanding across technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong judgment and decision-making ability, with comfort operating at both strategic and operational levels.

  • Experience working in environments that use Agile, Lean, DevOps, or hybrid delivery models, with the maturity to apply these practices in service of delivery outcomes.

  • Experience working with delivery tooling such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, CI/CD tools, or equivalent platforms.

  • Strong problem-solving capability and resilience in fast-moving, multi-stakeholder environments.

  • A leadership style that combines clarity, accountability, pragmatism, and support.

Even Better If

  • Experience leading delivery within a Fixed Value Stream or similarly structured business-critical delivery model.

  • Experience in organisations undergoing delivery model change, transformation, or operating model evolution.

  • Familiarity with cloud, DevOps, observability, automation, or architecture roadmap environments.

  • Experience working with internal and external vendors in a multi-partner delivery model.
