Role Purpose:

This role will support the Head of Foundation and Sustainable Business to develop, implement and be responsible for the sustainable business strategy for Vodafone Ireland.  Vodafone is focused on implementing programmes that foster a culture of sustainability across the company and supporting the business to deliver Vodafone’s Climate Transition Plan. 

At Vodafone we have taken great strides to integrate Sustainability into our core business through our Purpose strategy. We have assessed where we can have the greatest impact on the societies we operate in, and set ambitious goals to achieve this, including becoming Net Zero by 2040 and providing 75 million people with access to mobile financial services by 2026. In this role, the person will develop, manage and coordinate the sustainability strategy and outputs (including net zero, climate transition, circular economy) across the entire business.

This new role is the next step in our sustainability journey, with an ambition to create a culture of sustainability across the whole company, to embed sustainability goals and a carbon reduction pathway in every part of the business and to achieve our planet goals, including being net zero by 2030

Essence of Role – Key Accountabilities:

As part of this role you would be required to:

Work with every Business Unit at Vodafone Ireland to monitor and develop, then analyse progress against targets for net zero, planet and sustainability goals, on behalf of the Sustainable Business team, taking responsibility to report these back to various internal and external stakeholders 
Project manage Vodafone's Climate Transition Plan, supporting the business units that will implement the initiatives to achieve Vodafone’s Net Zero goals and keeping Senior Leadership Team informed
Report bi-annually to Group Sustainable Business leads on Vodafone Ireland ESG data and results.
Use your expertise to develop guidance for Vodafone business units and country teams to achieve their net zero goals and carbon reduction pathway.  
Reporting on progress to senior leadership including the CEO and Senior Leadership team
Support the business internally and externally with customers, to communicate best our plans, strategy and achievements around planet and sustainability, working closely with the planet steer co to shape impactful comms and messaging that enhance our customer experience
Help foster a culture of sustainability and carbon reduction with Vodafone Ireland, in line with climate transition plans and goals, helping every employee and customer go green.

To be accountable & responsible for management and implementation of sustainability strategy and projects:
•    Support the development of local ESG, Sustainability and Planet goals, aligning with global goals set by Vodafone Group and monitor progress locally and take responsibility for reporting back to stakeholders on progress
•    Ensure senior leadership and local leads are up to date on strategy, project deadlines and expectations


Report against targets to senior leadership and Group on ESG, Net Zero and Climate Transition plans:
•    Local results against target are reported on bi-annually, this role will be responsible for collating these results, analysing them and reporting internally, to Vodafone Group, and externally or to customers as required
•    Ensure compliance with relevant sustainability standards, regulations and guidelines as needed, and attend network/membership group meetings as needed representing Vodafone Ireland as an expert in this field


Develop guidance for BU’s on how to achieve net zero and carbon reduction goals, including financial investment:
 •    Using your knowledge, experience and background in ESG/Environment/Sustainability develop guidance for local business units such as Property, Supply Chain, Networks, Devices on how to achieve their carbon reduction and net zero goals against target, resources and financial investment that are needed and why


Support internal, customer and external Communications as needed:
•    Communications: Work closely with Internal and External Comms to develop strong strategy of communication to wider business, the media and public, and pilot activity with employees, as well as engaging customers in planet progress
•    Provide support to Head of Foundation & Sustainable Business and External Affairs Director, plus Networks Director as needed on key message delivery at a senior level

 

We Are Looking For You, If You Have:

Essential:
4+ years’ experience in a similar senior sustainability/ESG/Environment management role with accountability and responsibility for targets and results
Educated to degree level at least in a scientific/environmental/sustainability subject
Proven ability to develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders both internally (Networks/Supply Chain/ Brand / CVM / Property / Internal Comms teams) and externally (including BITC/ planet charity partners)
Expertise in sustainability. Net zero, climate change or another planet project area
Budget Management and experience championing a sustainability or planet programme internally
Excellent Stakeholder and relationship management skills
Experience reporting on technical/environmental targets

 

Further Requirements:

Excellent Administrative and Organisational Skills
Excellent presentation skills
Environmental experience, or in setting science based targets
Project Management Experience
Awareness of sustainability standards and Governance

 

Role requires strong relationships with the operating company business units, as well as relevant Group functions such as Sustainable business, Foundation, Supply chain, Circular Economy/Devices
Strong relations with Networks, Finance, Corporate Affairs, Legal and Communications/Brand teams to build planet and sustainability focused content, for campaigns and messaging for customers and the public
Good relationships with external stakeholders such as Business in the Community, government and membership organisations as an expert in your field; ability to influence policy and shape the future of sustainability as a key corporate leader
