VodafoneThree - SRE III
Location: Newbury + Hybrid
Salary: Excellent basic salary plus bonus and Vodafone benefits
Working hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday
Hybrid
We believe that through collaboration and connection with our colleagues we can achieve great things. Our hybrid working approach allows our people to work both in the office and at home, providing the flexibility and resources you need to succeed in your role. We don't require you to be in on specific days; instead, we ask people to come into the office 2-3 days each week, for at least 8 days per month. You should work with your line manager to understand what their expectations are for you, your specific role and your team.

We’re creating more than the UK’s best network. We’re helping close the digital divide, empower communities and drive meaningful progress.

What you’ll do
We’re looking for someone who thrives on building resilient platforms, reducing operational complexity and helping engineering teams move faster with confidence. If you enjoy solving complex reliability challenges, automating away toil, and influencing how modern cloud platforms are built and operated, you'll feel right at home with us.
- Lead the design and improvement of cloud platforms running on AWS, ensuring they remain scalable, secure, reliable, cost-efficient and easy for teams to consume.
- Drive a culture of 'build once, automate forever' by identifying repetitive operational work and replacing it with sustainable engineering solutions.
- Enable engineering teams to leverage advanced metrics and tracing using Datadog to reduce SLA.
- Partner with engineers, architects, security teams and product teams to build and operate platforms that enable rapid and safe delivery.
- Design, build and enhance CI/CD pipelines, and engineering tooling to improve developer experience and operational excellence using Azure Devops and Github Actions
- Lead improvements in logging, monitoring, alerting and operational visibility, helping teams make data-driven decisions and resolve issues quickly.
- Participate in and improve the on-call experience, using engineering and automation to reduce operational burden and improve service resilience.
- Coach and mentor engineers across the organisation, sharing knowledge and helping others develop modern SRE practices.
Who you are
- You are an experienced Site Reliability Engineer with strong cloud and software engineering skills, comfortable owning critical services running at scale in AWS and EKS.
- You have experience working with Kubernetes and Amazon EKS, designing and supporting containerised workloads that are secure, scalable and resilient.
- You have strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and developer platform tooling, including Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
- You are comfortable writing and maintaining code in Python and Go and use software engineering principles to solve operational problems through automation.
- You are confident leading investigations during production incidents, identifying root causes and driving long-term improvements that prevent recurring issues.
- You understand how modern engineering teams can leverage AI-powered tooling to improve productivity, accelerate development and enhance operational efficiency, while applying appropriate governance and engineering judgement.
- You communicate effectively with engineers, architects and stakeholders at all levels, helping others understand technical trade-offs, reliability considerations and platform best practices.
- You lead through influence and example, actively mentoring engineers, sharing knowledge and helping teams raise the quality, reliability and operational maturity of their services.
Nice to have
- Experience operating large-scale cloud platforms in a regulated environment.
- Experience with Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience implementing SLOs, SLIs and reliability engineering practices.
- Experience with FinOps and cloud cost optimisation.
- Experience using GenAI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot or AI-assisted operational tooling.
- Experience building internal developer platforms and self-service capabilities.
