M-Pesa Business Analyst
Role purpose
Is to work closely with all M-Pesa key stakeholders (Sales & Distribution, Payment, Merchants, Enterprise, CORE & CVM, Back Office, Finance, Financial Services, International Money Transfer, Compliance, Risk Management, Product Development & Project ) to understand and analyze their needs or requests, document them and support configuration / development and ensure implementation and delivery where the M-Pesa system is involved.
The role purpose is to provide Technical Assessment for each demand received and it should include recommendations and design of the solution to be developed, configured or change to be done into the M-Pesa ecosystem with the aim to satisfy the requestor.
The Business Analyst will be following up post-implementation to ensure that the request has been tested and delivered as per the scope or expectation.
The role includes conversion of the need or concept into a Business Requirement Specification and Solution Design before implementation, testing and delivery. In case development should be done by MPesa Africa or the local Development team within Billing & IT following the Agile methodology, the below will apply:
- Attending stand-up calls of the dedicated SQUAD put in place.
- Convert request from the Product Owner into user stories.
- Ensure that all backlogs are registered into the JIRA board.
- Participate to the different Agile ceremonies
The Business Analyst will engage with a wider range of resources (including Business Owners, Project Managers, Solutions Architects, Developers and System Owners, technology partners or suppliers, members of the Agile squad) to build technology solutions that address needs of our clients (individual or organizations), partners and as well internal staff.
The Business Analyst will be responsible for providing solutions to internal users who are already accessing to the M-Pesa platform but who have to change or improve on their existing access. Creation of new profiles or roles will be covered by the Business Analyst and as well the access monitoring every monthly.
Present to the change management committee initiatives ready for production deployment.
Ensure with all involved stakeholders that required steps to deploy any initiative on production have been followed and completed.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership:
1. Impact on the business
• Support Portfolio Manager/Product Owner in scoping and designing new requests.
• Support business owner in the formulation of new initiatives/product concepts by identifying the different needs required to fulfil on the desired strategic and tactical goals, determining potential problems and business/systems requirements.
• Document and manage the requirements throughout the project life cycle by capturing user stories, business requirement specifications and ensuring buy-in and sign-off from the different stakeholders.
• Work with the Solutions architect and partner providers to design the best solution and ensure what is implemented is technically sounds and meets all business needs.
• Have technical accountability and lead teams responsible for the detailed design, development, delivery and test of complex customer solutions (providing assurance and governance for technical components of the solution).
• Identify the risks related to changes in requirements, determine the impact those risks may have on the ability to deliver benefits and recommend actions to mitigate risks where possible.
• Collaborate with SCRUM master/Project Manager and members of Agile squad to ensure timely and accurate delivery of requirements.

• Support requests from other stakeholders.
• Facilitate interaction with suppliers and partners to understand their needs.
• Strong and proactive support to suppliers and partners for any issue/complain related to integration or support to ensure good relationship.

• Influence existing market standards, processes and procedures and facilitate the generation of ideas to improve day-to-day working.

• Facilitate interaction between M-Pesa and all teams involved in the process of supporting development or configuration of new initiative.
Core competencies, knowledge and experience:
Knowledge and experience
• Good understanding of mobile money products and services;
• At least 2 years experience as system administrator
• At least 2 years experience in mobile money environment as developer or technical support;
• Quick to read and understand technical documentation
• Able to write documentation and convert concept into business requirement specification documents.

Must have technical / professional qualifications:
Essential
• University degree
• 2 years working experience in Technical or Product Development environment.
• Knowledge of Mobile Money standard principles, systems and architecture
• Knowledge of Mobile Money products and services;
• Able to write documentation
• Excellent problem analysis and resolution skills to support work in reactive and proactive environments.
• Write and speak both French and English
• Knowledge of Microsoft Project Management, Power Point and Excel
