The OSS DevOps Engineer provides support and collaborates with software developers to deliver and enhance Vodafone’s Central OSS Automation services within the VNO customer portfolio. The role ensures a smooth transition of solutions from the development environment to the operational environment by following robust validation, testing, and implementation processes. It includes operating and ensuring the high availability of services, regularly developing automation scripts, and consistently seeking opportunities to optimize existing methods of working. The engineer implements changes and performs maintenance tasks on the software solutions used by clients, prepares detailed implementation documentation, and updates the configuration or code in accordance with established procedures. The team operates from two primary locations, Lisbon, Portugal, and Bucharest, Romania, ensuring 24/7 service continuity, availability, and stability across various markets and technology domains. These domains include Data Analytics, Automation, Web Portals, Systems Environment and Release Management. 

What you’ll do

  • Provide technical support for automation applications and systems, ensuring on-call availability approximately once every two months, including during and outside business hours;
  • Contribute to planning, assessment, implementation, rollout, and execution of code release phases and change requests;
  • Utilize, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and source-code control systems to facilitate efficient deployments and updates;
  • Manage and resolve incidents, problems, and service requests, including the implementation of workarounds as necessary;
  • Regularly identify opportunities for improvement and automation to optimize processes and services;
  • Adhere to defined service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure high-quality service delivery;
  • Support team knowledge building and skills development to continuously enhance customer service. Modify and adapt software solutions to improve performance and enhance the customer experience for specific services provided;
  • Review the technical and functional specifications of information systems and implement necessary modifications or adaptations to software solutions;
  • Perform impact analyses, propose, develop, and implement technical solutions to address software functionality issues, resolve advanced technical problems, and enhance the customer experience;
  • Foster long-term, sustainable relationships with Vodafone’s internal and external partners to ensure SLA compliance and drive service improvements. 

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering, IT or MIS;
  • Linux Training or Certifications • Programming/Scripting experience;
  • Database PL/SQL experience. Strong understanding of DevOps principles and the Agile methodology;
  • Minimum of 1 year of technical experience working with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS or GCP), CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins), and version control systems (e.g., Git);
  • Basic knowledge of: Containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, Configuration Management as code using tools like Ansible with Tower UI or AWX UI, Messaging systems such as Kafka, Databases like Oracle DB, Web service technologies, including SOAP/JMS and REST APIs;
  • Familiarity with Object-Oriented Programming languages (e.g., Java), scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Perl, Python), and writing PL/SQL database queries;
  • Strong operational knowledge with the ability to debug and troubleshoot application issues on Linux servers. Experience working in international and multicultural environments;
  • AWS or GCP Cloud Certifications are an advantage;
  • Fluency in English.
