This role is responsible fordriving the technical vision, architecture, engineering excellence, and delivery of scalable backend solutionsaligned with Vodafone standards, TM Forum Open APIs, and Vodafone Framework Assets (VFAs/JServices).
The Backend Tech Lead will work closely with Product Owners, Solution Architects, Engineering Managers,and cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality, secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions. Besidescontributing hands-on to software development, this role will mentor engineers, define technical bestpractices, and lead technical decision-making throughout the software development lifecycle.

What you’ll do

  • Provide technical leadership for Backend and DevOps activities across the DxL domain;
  • Own the technical architecture and solution design for backend services and microservices;
  • Ensure alignment with TM Forum Open APIs, Vodafone Framework Assets (VFAs/JServices), andenterprise architecture standards;
  • Lead the design, development, and evolution of scalable, resilient, and secure backend applications;
  • Drive engineering excellence through coding standards, code reviews, technical governance, andsoftware quality practices;
  • Mentor and coach backend engineers, promoting technical growth and knowledge sharing;
  • Define and promote best practices for API design, microservices architecture, observability, andcloud-native development;
  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to define and improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies,infrastructure automation, and operational excellence;
  • Ensure solutions meet performance, scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability requirements;
  • Support technical planning, estimation, backlog refinement, and architectural decision-making;
  • Work closely with architects and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technicalsolutions;
  • Drive continuous improvement across development processes, automation, monitoring, andplatform reliability;
  • Act as the technical reference point for backend technologies within the team.

Who you are

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field;
  • Extensive experience developing enterprise-grade backend applications using Java;
  • Strong knowledge of Java ecosystem, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and microservicesarchitecture;
  • Solid understanding of TM Forum Open APIs and experience implementing TMF-compliant solutions;
  • Experience working with Vodafone Framework Assets (VFAs/JServices) or similar enterprise serviceframeworks;
  • Strong knowledge of REST APIs, OpenAPI specifications, JSON, XML, and API lifecycle management;
  • Experience designing distributed systems with high availability, scalability, and resilience;
  • Strong understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, Clean Architecture, andDomain-Driven Design;
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, SQL);
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD practices and tools such as Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus, Git, andautomated testing frameworks;
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and orchestration platforms such asKubernetes/OpenShift;
  • Good understanding of Infrastructure as Code, deployment automation, observability, logging, andmonitoring;
  • Knowledge of security best practices for enterprise backend applications;
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills;
  • Ability to influence technical decisions across multiple teams;
  • Proven mentoring and technical leadership capabilities;
  • Strong ownership, accountability, and delivery mindset;
  • Ability to balance hands-on development with technical leadership responsibilities.
