Role purpose

This is a senior role within Vodafone Group, responsible for the operations that underpin the delivery of our Sustainability strategy globally, and our associated disclosures.

Vodafone Group has embedded sustainability into our core business model, through our Climate Transition Plan, Empowering People strategy, and ESG Reporting programes. A key element of our continued success is ensuring that our sustainability efforts are underpinned by a well-maintained operating model, strong governance, and high-quality disclosures. Likewise, as regulation of ESG topics increases, we need to ensure that our model can flex to incorporate new requirements in the most efficient and value-creating way.

The successful candidate will ensure that our strategy meets evolving requirements, and oversee associated transformation programes, including on CSRD and CSDDD. This role will also have responsibility for managing and communicating progress against our global targets, including continued integration into incentive structures, and manage governance related to Vodafone Group’s ESG Committee of the Board.

The role reports into the Group Head of Sustainability and Transparency, and sits in our Group Sustainable Business Team which sets the strategy on sustainability globally for Vodafone, and partners with business units globally to deliver against this strategy.  The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders across business functions and markets globally, in particular with Legal, Investor Relations, Finance (ESG data), Policy, and Corporate Secretariat.

What you’ll do

  • Ownership of our ESG Operating Model, ensuring that sustainability demands are streamlined into business units and markets, that progress and performance against targets is tracked and reported, and that information flows freely and efficiently across the business, from the Board down.
  • Ownership of our ESG Disclosure programme.
  • Design and lead transformation programmes to meet new ESG requirements, particularly on new regulation.
  • Manage and monitor risks to delivery, including escalation through relevant governance forums and development of action plans.
  • Management of external advisors as required.

Who you are

  • Demonstrated experience leading governance or strategy development programmes in a large organisation, and the ability to transform complex problems into solutions for the business.
  • Demonstrated experience working in Sustainability, and knowledge of key concepts and landscape.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence and manage a wide range of stakeholders, and become a trusted advisor.
  • Experience in a people management role.
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Relevant knowledge of technical ESG concepts.
