Role Purpose / What You’ll Do
- Responsible for the creation of IP designs to support all demands across Vodafone UK. Supporting Design, Testing and Validation, Implementation & Integration and Acceptance activity, providing leadership and guidance on resolving complex technical issues.
- Own Infrastructure designs and solutions, leading innovation to bring new ideas and products to the market quickly and efficiently. Always ensuring design aligns to the Company Roadmaps / Strategy.
- Seen as the SME providing technical guidance to assist configuration, support & provide teams on all areas relating to IP Design
- Responsible for the IP Area Controller (Nokia NSP) development as part of the Software Defined Networking introduction. This is a key part of this role to ensure we deliver as much automation capability into the UK business & evolve service deployment from the current set up to using Intent Based Service Fulfilment in NSP.
- Good understanding of the TDO (Transport Domain Orchestrator) and its interaction with the network / NSP / NFM-P. Define detailed process steps to evolve from today’s service deployment model to the expected future set up using the SDN stack.
- The main interfaces are within the Service Management, Product Management, Mobile networks, Service Delivery, Program management & Operations.
- To own the technical relationship with vendors, continually looking to deliver improvements to existing & new designs.
- Work with the problem Management team for any issues relating to the UK IP Design, ensuring the problem is fully understood & any design changes required are delivered to time.
- Ensuring network inventories such as Cramer are aligned to the live core & backhaul network. Working with OSS & IT to ensure as the network evolves their tools can also cater for these network changes.
- Support lifecycle management activities, including reviewing EoX notifications / vendor roadmaps, delivering the most cost-effective way to evolve the network, while staying in vendor support,
- Heavily involved in relationship with vendors, continually looking to deliver improvements to existing & new designs through HW & SW evolution features.
Key Accountabilities & Decision Ownership
- Support all activities within the NSP in terms of design & evolution to ensure service migrations evolve to using the SDN stack
- To produce or modify appropriate technical documentation as part of the evolution of the network & SDN.
- Manage all financial requirements needed, covering the next few FYs to ensure the appropriate funding is detailed, requested and spent to meet forecasted network growth.
- To develop SDN capability for the wider business, developing the building blocks for automation that all UK teams could use.
- Ensure there is well understood & documented governance around how SDN automation should be developed, onboarded and operated across the UK business.
Core Competencies, Knowledge & Experience
- Seen as the SME within the Business for Nokia NSP / NFM-
- Good knowledge and understanding of Backhaul & Core IP networks.
- Good understanding of TDO platform & its interaction with the network or SDN stack
- Excellent knowledge of telecommunications network systems and their services
- Excellent knowledge of Services (Mobile, Broadband & Enterprise) utilising MPLS networks & how they route.
- Strong knowledge of Software Defined Networking
Technical / Professional Qualifications
- Ideally Cisco CCNP / Nokia SRA qualified. Excellent knowledge of routers / switches & network design
- Excellent knowledge of Cramer would be ideal
- Coding: Some experience here would be useful - VBA/Macro, Perl, Python, SQL
Key Performance Indicators
- Ensuring the NSP / SDN evolves as required, with active use cases across the UK network within the next year
- Ensuring service deployment / modification for the UK business evolved away from NFM-P & onto NSP, aligned with the timelines for the NFM-P retirement.
