About this Role
We are seeking a skilled Ab Initio Data Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Unix and Teradata, along with basic working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The role focuses on designing, developing, optimising and supporting ETL solutions in large-scale data processing environments, with accountability for performance, stability and production support.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop and maintain ETL workflows using Ab Initio components including GDE, EME and the Co>Operating System
- Build, optimise and support data ingestion, transformation and extraction pipelines for enterprise data platforms
- Write and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts for automation, scheduling and monitoring activities
- Develop, optimise and tune SQL queries and data models within Teradata environments
- Perform performance tuning and troubleshooting for ETL jobs and database queries
- Collaborate with operations, infrastructure and business teams to resolve production issues and deliver enhancements
- Follow best practices related to data quality, security, governance and compliance
- Provide support during releases, incident resolution and root cause analysis
- Maintain clear technical documentation covering designs, workflows and operational procedures
Who you are
- You have strong hands-on experience in Ab Initio ETL development
- You demonstrate good proficiency in Unix/Linux commands and shell scripting
- You bring solid experience in Teradata SQL, performance tuning and utilities
- You understand data warehousing concepts and ETL best practices
- You have experience working in production support environments with incident management
- You have basic working knowledge of GCP services such as Google Cloud Storage, BigQuery and Compute Engine
- Exposure to cloud migration or hybrid data platforms is an advantage
- Familiarity with scheduling tools (for example Autosys or Control‑M) and Agile/Scrum methodologies is preferred
- You have 4–8 years of relevant experience, aligned to a Deputy Manager band role
