About this Role
What you will do
- Administer and operationally support production DB2 and Informix databases, with exposure to Oracle and other relational database technologies.
- Analyse database and application performance bottlenecks, including scripts, code and user-generated queries.
- Perform SQL and database performance tuning to improve application and service performance.
- Support database upgrades and migrations, including integration with other RDBMS platforms.
- Manage database configuration, memory, storage and high-availability architectures.
- Perform backup and recovery activities and support DML operations.
- Work closely with application teams to maintain reliable database operations.
- Manage user access and contribute to security audits.
- Participate in auditing and SOX compliance activities.
- Provide on-call support for high-priority database incidents.
- Develop and maintain UNIX, shell and other scripts to automate BAU operational activities and improve system stability.
- Use monitoring and observability platforms such as Enterprise Manager, Grafana, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Kibana, Splunk or Zabbix.
- Perform log analysis, alert tuning, dashboard development and proactive monitoring.
- Work with ticketing tools and established operational support processes.
- Apply SRE practices, proactive monitoring, reconciliation, automation and continual service improvement.
- Contribute to service governance and end-to-end service stability and availability.
- Support optimisation initiatives, including AI-driven improvements in CRM and end-to-end operations.
Who you are
- You have 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in application database administration and operational support.
- You have hands-on expertise in DB2 and Informix, with Oracle database knowledge also relevant.
- You have expertise in database and SQL performance tuning.
- You understand database architecture, including memory, storage, clustering and high-availability concepts.
- You have experience configuring, upgrading, migrating and operationally supporting databases.
- You have advanced UNIX knowledge and are proficient in shell scripting, with knowledge of at least one additional scripting language such as Perl.
- You understand proactive monitoring, automation, reconciliation and continual service improvement.
- you have experience with observability or monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Kibana, Splunk or Zabbix.
- You can analyse logs, tune alerts and use dashboards to proactively identify operational issues.
- You have analytical, communication, stakeholder-management and technical-leadership capabilities.
- You hold a bachelor’s degree or have equivalent relevant professional experience.
- ITIL certification is desirable.Telecom industry knowledge would be an advantage.
