Job Description

  • Key accountabilities and decision ownership:
    1.Design and develop highly performant, scalable and stable Big Data cloud native applications
    2.Source data from a variety of different sources, in the correct format, meeting data quality standards and assuring timeous access to data and analytical insights
    3.Build batch and real-time data pipelines, using automated testing and deployment
    4.Build transformations to produced enriched data insights
    5.Integrate applications with business systems to enable value from analytic models and enable decision making
    6.Define and implement best practices relating to cloud economics, software engineering and data engineering to ensure a well-architected cloud framework with data management practices built into each design.
    7.Work with the architecture team to evolve the Big Data capabilities (reusable assets/patterns) and components to support the business requirements/objectives
    8.Research, investigate and evaluate new technologies and methods to improve delivery and sustainability of data applications and services
    9.Make contributions to the process of defining best practice for the agile development of applications to run on the Big Data Platform
    C2 General

    Core competencies, knowledge and experience:
    1.Experience managing the development lifecycle for agile software development projects
    2.Expert level experience in designing, building and managing data pipelines for batch and streaming applications
    3.Experience with performance tuning for batch-based applications like Hadoop, including working knowledge using Nifi, Yarn, Hive, Airflow and Spark
    4.Experience with performance tuning streaming-based applications for real-time data processing using Kafka, Confluent Kafka, AWS Kinesis, GCP pub/sub or similar
    5.Experience working with serverless services such as Openshift, GCP or AWS
    6.Working experience with AWS would be a prerequisite
    7.Working experience with other distributed technologies such as CassandraDB, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Elastic Search and Flink would be desirable
    8.Java and Python programming ability would be an advantage
    9.Experience in metadata management, data modelling and schema management would be an added benefit

    Must have technical / professional qualifications:
    1.3+year IT or IS degree or diploma or related field is essential
    2.Relevant cloud certification at professional level or above in AWS
    3.5+ years BI or related software development experience
    4.Agile exposure, Kanban or Scrum
