About this Role
What you will do
- Administer and support production Oracle databases and associated database environments.
- Analyse database and application performance bottlenecks, including scripts, code and user-generated queries that contribute to application slowness.
- Perform database and SQL performance tuning, including support for DML operations.
- Support database upgrades and migrations from older to newer versions, including integration with other RDBMS technologies.
- Manage database configuration, architecture and day-to-day operational administration.
- Work with memory, storage, cluster and high-availability architectures.
- Support database backup and recovery activities.
- Manage user access and contribute to security audits.
- Participate in auditing and SOX compliance activities.
- Monitor database environments using tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager and Grafana.
- Use observability and monitoring platforms such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Kibana, Splunk or Zabbix for log analysis, alert tuning, dashboards and proactive monitoring.
- Work closely and collaboratively with application teams to support database operations.
- Use ticketing tools to manage operational incidents and service requests.
- Provide on-call support for high-priority database issues.
- Develop and maintain UNIX, shell and other scripts to automate BAU operational activities and improve system stability.
- Handle UNIX jobs and batch processes, tune existing processes and develop new processes where required.
- Contribute to proactive monitoring, automation, reconciliation and continual service improvement.
- Apply SRE practices and support AI-driven optimisation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
Who you are
- You have 7–10 years of relevant application database support and administration experience, including at least seven years of proficient application database support operations experience.
- You have hands-on experience administering Oracle databases across multiple versions.
- You understand Oracle and non-Oracle database architecture.
- You have practical expertise in database and SQL performance tuning.
- You have experience configuring databases and providing operational support.
- You understand memory architecture, storage architecture, cluster architecture and high-availability environments.
- You have advanced UNIX knowledge and practical experience with shell scripting and at least one additional scripting language, such as Perl.
- You have experience with database upgrades, migrations, backup and recovery, user access management and security auditing.
- You understand proactive monitoring, automation, reconciliation and continual service improvement.
- You have experience with monitoring and observability technologies such as Enterprise Manager, Grafana, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Kibana, Splunk or Zabbix.
- You can perform log analysis, alert tuning and dashboard-based proactive monitoring.
- You bring effective analytical, communication, stakeholder-management and technical-leadership skills.
- You hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- ITIL certification is desirable.
- Knowledge of telecommunications would be an advantage.
