What you’ll do

 

This role involves supporting strategic compliance across Franchise Programme and the VodafoneThree Retail Estate, ensuring the delivery of high quality, commercial, legal advice. The successful candidate will have broad commercial legal experience and may be required to support other key projects across the Consumer Legal team as demand requires it.  The successful candidate will support the delivery of high-quality legal advice on a range of initiatives, manage legal risk and ensure compliance with evolving legislation. Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners is crucial, as is driving continuous improvement in legal processes.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience as a qualified lawyer in a leading telco or other franchised business, and/or with an understanding of the sector. They should possess strong stakeholder management skills, commercial acumen and the ability to take ownership of their own caseload and manage legal risk. They will also demonstrate enthusiasm for collaboration within a diverse team. Key performance indicators include timely delivery of legal advice, effective risk management and positive stakeholder feedback.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • High Quality Legal Advice: Deliver high-quality, pragmatic and solution-oriented legal advice across a range of commercial issues within the franchise programme and the wider retail estate. Support legal strategy on Consumer Legal Team objectives and strategy. Support compliance with relevant legislation and regulation, safeguarding commercial integrity.
  • Internal Stakeholder Management: Build strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders across the Retail function, Consumer Operations and the Consumer Business Unit. Ensure legal advice is aligned with business priorities and delivered in a timely and commercial manner. Encourage cross-functional collaboration across the VodafoneThree organisation, to achieve strategic outcomes and the goals of the business. Manage and mitigate risk and champion best legal practice.
  • Risk Assessment and Assurance: Support legal risk assessment across the strategic priorities set out above. Work with robust assurance frameworks to mitigate exposure to legal, financial and reputational risks. Advocate for proactive risk identification and assurance across VodafoneThree’s business initiatives.
  • Governance and Continuous Improvement: Contribute to training and guidance for teams across the business on legal topics relevant to the team’s key stakeholders. Proactively contribute ideas to drive continuous improvement in legal processes, embedding automation, simplification and scalability to support legal efficiency, and increase business self-serve. Collaborate with stakeholders to refine processes and embed legal best practice.
  • Influence and Manage External Stakeholders: Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders including  group company functions, external counsel and strategic commercial partners where relevant, to further align with VodafoneThree’s commercial objectives.
  • Horizon Scanning: Proactively monitor regulatory and legislative developments impacting the team’s practice area.  Identify opportunities to support the immediate and wider Legal team’s learning and development. Share knowledge with colleagues and identify opportunities to implement positive change for VodafoneThree.

Who you are  


The knowledge and expertise to achieve business objectives. The degree of understanding required for the industry, commercial environment and of competitors products and services.

 

  • Legal Expertise: At least 1 year PQE as a qualified commercial lawyer in a leading consumer facing company, telco and/or law firm, franchise experience is essential.
    Industry knowledge: Understanding of the franchise, retail, technology and telecoms sectors and knowledge of applicable legal trends.
  • Personal Responsibility: Takes ownership of tasks and cases, and is able to demonstrate their effective progression. Demonstrates a “self-starter” attitude and uses initiative to progess work, seeking guidance where appropriate.
  • Risk Management: Proactively manages legal risk, balancing risk and mitigations proportionately to enable the business to meet its financial and growth targets. Being prepared to drive process and technology changes, to deliver efficiencies in legal delivery.
  • Commercial Acumen: Able to apply sound commercial judgement to balance legal risk with business opportunity, to enable strategic decision making aligned with business priorities. 
  • Influential Stakeholder and External Engagement: Possess effective stakeholder management and negotiation skills, enabling influence across internal teams and external parties. Builds trusted relationships that drive alignment and support strategic outcomes.
  • Analytical Insight and Strategic Communication: Applies legal analysis and data to problems, to extract critical insights and shape pragmatic solutions. Communicates outcomes with clarity and precision, tailoring messages appropriately to diverse audiences to support confident decision-making across the business.
  • Development: Demonstrates an enthusiasm to develop in the role and in the team. Seeks and acts on feedback, takes ownership of an individual development plan and embaces stretch targets, and opportunities.
  • Collaboration: Must be a genuine team player. Demonstrates an enthusiasm to support colleagues, to share ideas and information, and to work together towards shared goals.
