Position Title: Senior Legal Counsel
Location: East Coast, USA

Role Description

We’re looking for a pragmatic, collaborative, and experienced senior commercial lawyer to support sales of global products and services to large multinational companies headquartered in the United States.  Key responsibilities:  provide legal advice and support to Vodafone Business International, and review/draft/negotiate complex customer agreements.  Liaise with other specialists around the Group and within the Legal and Business Integrity teams. 

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

  • Provide accurate, effective, and timely legal advice, analysis, and support on commercial and contractual matters.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts for complex and sophisticated transactions with bespoke elements, including for services such as fixed services and carrier services; support commercial colleagues in their negotiation with third parties to achieve contractual arrangements which accurately reflect the business requirements.
  • Support channel partner program including referral agreements, reseller agreements, and systems integrator agreements.
  • Deal with complex matters in different jurisdictions with multiple stakeholders and forces.
  • Evaluate and manage different risk factors and offer proactive advice on legal issues including contract interpretation questions and disputes.
  • Assist with the improvement of processes within the Vodafone Business and Legal Integrity team including customer facing processes as well as internal processes, and share best practices.
  • Develop and maintain effective contacts with other functions such as regulatory, privacy, security, and engage them as appropriate to ensure the best solution to meet commercial objectives.
  • Deliver training, as needed, to sales and service management colleagues.
  • Proactive engagement and positive feedback from senior stakeholders.
  • Leading role on completion on a material number of complex matters.
  • Tangible material contribution to digital transformation activities

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:

  • Lawyer licensed in New York or other state within the United States with minimum 8+ years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements with sophisticated customers.
  • Understands the technological and commercial challenges and can recommend innovative solutions in a risk aware manger. Balances the needs of the business to achieve commercial goals with the need to adhere to governance.
  • Experience working on multiple projects at once with an ability to prioritise and plan time effectively, providing accurate, pragmatic, and actionable advice to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.  Ability to communicate with impact to senior managers, legal, and commercial audiences using a variety of communication styles.
  • Capable of working independently but with the confidence to identify areas where training, supervision or personal development is required.
  • Managing a changing environment – able to deal with complexity and ambiguity in a dynamic and challenging working environment.
  • Resilience – ability to meet the personal challenges of working in a fast-paced organisation with colleagues in different time zones.

Key Qualifications

  • Lawyer licensed in one of the East Coast states within the United States
  • 8+ years’ experience gained either in-house and/or at a leading law firm.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Strong commercial understanding and proven track record of delivery.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to influence others.

Compensation Range (base salary)

$176,640 - $245,000 / yr + yearly bonus

The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
