About this role
We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to design, build and operate the cloud infrastructure and platform services that underpin Vodafone's digital and technology capabilities.
Based in London, UK, and reporting to the Platform Technical Lead within Digital Engineering, Digital & IT, you will treat infrastructure as software, defining it in code and testing, reviewing and releasing it through automated pipelines.
You will own the design and implementation of significant infrastructure components and platform services, translating architectural direction into secure, reliable, observable and operationally ready solutions. Working with Cloud Architects, Infrastructure & Developer Platform Leads and engineering teams, you will contribute deep technical expertise across cloud infrastructure, networking, automation and platform services.
What you’ll do
- Design, build and operate secure, scalable and reliable cloud infrastructure and platform services through code and automation.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code modules, automation tooling and deployment pipelines.
- Deliver reliable environments and reusable platform capabilities that support engineering teams and customer-facing services.
- Build monitoring, observability, alerting and operational controls into infrastructure from the outset.
- Support production environments, including incident investigation, root-cause analysis and resolution.
- Apply identity, access management, security, compliance and operational controls across delivered infrastructure.
- Improve reliability, consistency and maintainability through automation and reusable engineering patterns.
- Contribute to cloud cost optimisation through automation, right-sizing and platform improvements.
- Support AI-native engineering practices through infrastructure automation and appropriate platform capabilities.
- Identify technical risks and escalate architectural or strategic concerns where appropriate.
- Collaborate on design reviews and support other engineers through technical mentoring and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute reusable standards, modules and engineering improvements across the cloud engineering community.
Who you are
- 5+ years of cloud, infrastructure or platform engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on experience designing, building and operating cloud-native infrastructure and services.
- Strong practical experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or equivalent, including version control, testing and automated delivery.
- Experience operating services on at least one major cloud platform.
- Experience with containers, orchestration and cloud-native infrastructure.
- A strong understanding of cloud networking, identity and access management.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines and automated provisioning and deployment processes.
- Experience implementing observability, monitoring, alerting and operational tooling.
- Experience supporting production infrastructure and resolving operational incidents.
- Strong scripting and automation skills.
- An understanding of resilience, distributed systems and infrastructure supportability.
- The ability to incorporate security and compliance requirements into infrastructure solutions from the outset.
- An understanding of AI-assisted software delivery and the infrastructure capabilities required to support its safe and effective adoption.
- The ability to mentor and collaborate with engineers through design reviews, technical discussions and knowledge sharing.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
