To provide specialist design authority, engineering, project and co-ordination expertise in the planning and implementation of global submarine cable systems for Vodafone and consultancy services to third-party organisations.  This role will ensure such submarine cable systems are contracted in line with Vodafone’s technical requirements and in line with budget and timeline constraints.  This will require close collaboration with other parts of Vodafone to ensure alignment.

 

The role will ensure oversight of the solution design, working alongside assigned specialist engineers and consortium partners, to agree contract specifications and commercial conditions; evaluation of bids through to contract award; manufacture and delivery oversight and formal acceptance. The role requires senior level participation in consortium either as Procurement Group Chair or Representative, and management of: marine and terrestrial suppliers; external contractors; other system owners; landing providers and multiple regulatory agencies.  It may require representing Vodafone in key organisations such as ESCA and ICPC.

What you’ll do

  • Provide technical guidance and commercial  support to the development of submarine cable systems and solutions to Vodafone Business and Vodafone local markets. 
  • Lead the relationship with specialist submarine system supplier(s) to ensure the delivery of complex projects, maintaining oversight of tasks undertaken by the project team.
  • Provide regular reporting on progress, ensuring dependencies are articulated and actions progressed.
  • Coaching and guidance to junior engineers, supporting their delivery of less complex projects with clear direction.
  • Effective management of partners and suppliers.
  • Direct reports: no.
  • Travel to other locations, including overseas, required.

Who you are

  • Technology Leadership.
  • Experience in the deployment of submarine cable systems is highly desirable.
  • Programme management and co-ordination of resources in large projects.
  • Ability to understand and act on commercial, legal, regulatory, environmental, tax, importation, and financial matters.
  • Experience in an offshore environment.
  • Degree qualified, engineering subject preferred.
