What you’ll do

Role purpose: 
The Specialist: Power Performance is responsible for providing performance optimisation across telecommunications site power systems in the MAST portfolio. The role ensures that power solutions are reliable, compliant, commercially viable, and fit for current and future tenant requirements.
This role combines technical design, power performance analytics, and operational optimisation to improve site resilience, uptime, and cost efficiency. The incumbent will support the development and improvement of grid, rectifier, battery, generator, hybrid, and cooling solutions, while ensuring alignment with internal standards, customer requirements, and business performance objectives.

 

Who you are

Key accountabilities and decision ownership : 
1. Power Performance Engineering 
•    Review and assess power requirements for co-location, network expansion, and site upgrades.
•    Provide technical guidance and approval recommendations for power solutions based on capacity, resilience, and site constraints.
•    Ensure engineering decisions are documented and supported by clear technical rationale.
•    Act as a technical authority on power system performance and optimisation initiatives.
2. Power Performance Optimisation
•    Analyse site power performance using RMS and operational data.
•    Identify performance gaps, inefficiencies, recurring failures, and optimisation opportunities.
•    Develop site-specific optimisation plans to improve uptime, battery performance, generator utilisation, and overall service quality.
•    Support operations and maintenance teams with practical performance improvement interventions.
3. Technical Assessments and Diagnostics
•    Analyse site surveys, audits, and technical reports to determine system condition and performance risk.
•    Identify issues related to rectifier loading, battery autonomy, generator performance, cooling demand, and power quality.
•    Produce clear technical findings and prioritised recommendations for remediation or upgrade.
4. Compliance, Risk and Assurance
•    Ensure all power performance interventions align with applicable standards, policies, and safety requirements.
•    Apply risk-based engineering principles to design, upgrade, and operational decisions.
•    Support technical audits, compliance reviews, and corrective action tracking.
•    Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to quality, safety, and engineering governance.
5. Upgrade Planning and Solution Development
•    Develop and recommend power upgrade solutions to support load growth, resilience targets, and tenant requirements.
•    Evaluate technical options including rectifier upgrades, battery enhancements, generator strategies, hybrid operation, and renewable integration.
•    Provide technical inputs into designs, specifications, and implementation requirements.
•    Ensure recommendations are practical, scalable, and aligned to operational realities.

Must have technical / professional qualifications: 
•    Grade 12 (Matric).
•    National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field).
•    Minimum 5 years experience in telecommunications.
•    Experience in telecom site power systems, including rectifiers, batteries, generators, and power distribution.
•    Experience in technical analysis, performance optimisation, and power system troubleshooting.
•    Experience in interpreting technical surveys, audits, and engineering documentation.
•    Experience in developing technical scopes, recommendations, and implementation requirements.
