Role purpose

The National Tax Specialist is responsible for ensuring full tax compliance, effective tax governance, and proactive tax risk management across the organization. The role provides expert tax advisory support, manages tax audits and regulatory interactions, ensures accurate and timely tax filings, and contributes to the implementation of Vodacom’s Tax Strategy and Tax Control Framework. The Specialist ensures adherence to national tax laws, monitors legislative changes, and supports the business with tax‑efficient solutions that mitigate risk, optimize financial exposure, and uphold Vodacom’s commitments to compliance and integrity.

Key accountabilities:

1.    Preparation and filing of the tax returns and durties, in compliance with the local legal deadline:
-    Excise duty
-    Value added tax
-    Withholding tax on foreign services, interests, dividends, royalties
-    Withholding tax on satellite fees, Vodacom logo and brand royalties
-    Monthly production statistics for the National Economy
-    Regulatory fees
-    Corporate income tax 
-    Payroll tax (IPR/IERE) and social contributions (CNSS, INPP, and ONEM), as well as monitoring the CNSS electronic declaration in collaboration with SESOMO, including monitoring the preparation of the summary declaration and exemption forms; - Provision for the local interconnect tax
-    Environmental Tax
-    Ordinary concession fees
-    Tax on the possession of measuring instruments
-    Tax on the distribution of artistic works (cinematographic)
-    Tax on the authorization to transport and store petroleum products
-    Annual numbering fees
-    Annual spectrum fees
-    Internet fees
-    VSAT earth station fees
-    Any other central government duties, taxes, and fees.

2.    Reconciliation
-    Monthly reconciliation of revenues declared for VAT with the revenues declared in the accounts.
-    Monthly reconciliation of licenses of imported services with the base reported to the WHT 14% 
-    Monthly reconciliation of revenues declared for excise duties with the revenues declared in the accounts. 
-    Monthly Reconciliation of declared rental tax with the rent paid.

3.    Quarterly CIT Review
4.    Tax audit and Parafiscal assistance (with support from the line manager).
5.    Assistance during accounting review and tax review conducted by external auditors.
6.    Update of new tax developments.
7.    Quarterly updating of files of clients exempt from VAT and excise duties.
8.    Management and processing of correspondence from the national tax authorities (DGI, DGRAD, DGDA), including their provincial and local jurisdictions, as well as from central government ministries (with support from the line manager).
9.    Updating the list of tax disputes and actions to be taken.

Core competencies, Knowledge, and Experience:

-    Education: Bachelor’s in taxation, accounting, finance, economics or equivalent
-    More than 3 years local tax experience
-    Very good knowledge of Accounting (OHADA)
-    English and French fluency 
-    Computer skills: Advance level in Excel and good knowledge of Word
-    Be able to work under pression with several priorities and during long working hours.
