What you’ll do

 

Role purpose:

 

This position is based in Maputo and reports directly to the Manager: RTR and GL. The position will be a responsible to manage transactional sub-processes of the end-to-end Real Estate Contract Management and accounting processes in a timely and accurate manner, in accordance with defined operating procedures, policies, SOX, compliance, IFRS16 and Vodacom Group.

The Senior Specialist: Real Estate & General Ledger is responsible for managing the company’s real estate portfolio, ensuring accurate accounting, GL integrity, compliance with IFRS standards, and timely reporting. The role provides strategic support in property management, lease administration, asset optimization, and financial governance to improve operational efficiency and cost control across the real estate domain.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Oversee the full life cycle of the company’s real estate assets, including lease acquisition, renewals, terminations, and disposals;
  • Manage rental escalations, utilities, service charges, and maintenance contracts;
  • Ensure accurate capture of lease data in real estate and finance systems;
  • Maintain accurate lease accounting in compliance with IFRS 16;
  • Review and validate right-of-use assets, lease liabilities, depreciation, and interest calculations;
  • Validate monthly lease-related journal entries and reconciliations;
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of GL balances related to real estate, GL and associated cost centers;
  • Prepare and review monthly journals, accruals, and provisions;
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies;
  • Ensure month-end and year-end closing processes are executed accurately and on time;
  • Produce monthly financial reports related to real estate and Opex expenditure, lease commitments, and P&L variances analysis;
  • Support forecasting and budgeting for the real estate and Opex function;
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities within the Opex portfolio;
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and audit requirements;
  • Improve real estate and GL processes for accuracy and efficiency;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Finance Business Partner, Technology, Procurement, Finance).

 


What we are looking in you:

 

  • Accounting degree combined with work experience may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements;
  • Positive and proactive mind set;
  • Knowledge of General Accounting practices, IFRS and PGC NIRF;
  • Experience with ERP accounting systems (SAP &HFM);
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Analytical thinking and problem solving;
  • Excellent stakeholder management;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. (English and Portuguese).
