Position:          Radio Engineer

Reports to:     Manager: RAN Operations

Department:  Access Networks

Job Purpose:

To ensure proper running of Vodacom Lesotho Access Network. Manages service availability through transmission, power, cooling and EBU hardware monitoring. Also to keep and observe compliance to standards and policies in all activities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Advises the regional supervisor of power upgrade   based on future and current fit for growth requirements, organizational goals, and technology strategy to meet KPI targets.
  • Based on daily site visits, recommends dimensioning of regional Vodacom energy systems based on current requirements and forecasted future trends
  • Simplifies architecture, optimises infrastructure and introduces new power units plan in line with business strategy
  • Supports the development of regional Technical Response Plans for all power elements inclusive of BTS sites to minimise major region outages
  • Identifies and maintains minor defects on access roads, fence parameter, equipment container and mast.
  • Implements Radio Engineering and Network Quality QoS initiatives
  • Supports the transmission team in resilience tests
  • Test new RAN technology advancements and implement them in the network
  • Attends all active and passive equipment fault within agreed SLAS
  • Control faults handling in BSS network and manage escalation thereof
  • Control faults handling in Transmission network and manage escalation thereof
  • Support NQ with all relevant alarms to improve the network quality
  • Undertake capacity upgrades on BSS, Transmission and Power systems
  • Replaces generator electrical and mechanical components
  • Perform regular air conditioner maintenance work

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Diesel or Plant Fitting
  • Advance knowledge in mobile network technologies and mobile network protocols
  • Advance knowledge in how GSM systems integrates
  • Medium to advance knowledge of an IP network
  • Basic understanding of Cloud network
  • Advance knowledge in high current and renewable energy

 Skills:

  •  Excellent system design skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation abilities
  • Understanding Project Management principles specifically
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Ability to work on heights
