Role Purpose/Business Unit:
The Executive Head (EHOD) of RTR is a key role within the Vodacom Group Finops Accounting Competence Centre department, which operates within the End-to-End Accounting & Reporting framework of Vodacom Group, serving as a key decision-making authority for strategic accounting judgements and as a nexus for compliance assurance on group level.
The EHOD leads the accounting centre of excellence (COE) which serves as a centralised hub overseeing the market-wide holistic appliance of accounting and reporting standards across Vodacom markets. With a broad range of accounting experts, the team is furthermore owning and evolving the global Record to Report (RTR) process frameworks.
Accounting Centre of Excellence & Governance
- Establishes and enforces compliance parameters by owning the governance of RTR-related Vodafone Group Standard Operating Procedures (“VGFOPS”) and Vodacom Group Policies, ensuring consistency, accuracy, transparency, excellence and compliance across all accounting functions
- Develops overarching robust compliance governance frameworks to assure guidance and adherence for key compliance processes (such as Balance Sheet Reconciliation, Accrual Governance and others) and streamline data aggregation and reporting processes, supporting strategic decision-making at both local and organizational levels.
- Collaborates closely with the Vodacom Group Finance IFRS team to align accounting policy, judgement and application.
- Establishes a close liaison with the Local Market Head of Finance (HOFO), to ensure the timely and accurate financial reporting, enabling local markets certification of Income Statements, Balance Sheet Reviews and other Financial Statements artefacts (Disclosures, Management Reports, etc.) under both International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Local Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Efficiently own and manage the RTR Roadmap and strategic vision, skilfully prioritizing strategic key accounting initiatives and demands across Vodafone.
- Leads a team of accounting experts, with a deep understanding of international and local reporting standards and a broad range of expertise in Financial-Accounting, -Reporting, -Controls & -Compliance.
- Acts as a Business Partner for the Local HOFOs, CSO and Vodacom Group Finance organisations for RTR policies and overarching accounting processes.
- Offers accounting expertise for process transformation
- Provides leadership to the Accounting CoE team, setting strategic goals and objectives
Your responsibilities will include:
- Design an efficient and effective organisation which assumes responsibility for accounting governance and excellence
- Deliver oversight and CoE expertise for cross functional/cross entity strategic projects within RTR domain e.g. Device Financing, Loyalty Accounting
- Establish governance for the accounting judgement process for all complex/critical accounting decisions
- Co-Ownership of the RTR-related Vodafone Group Standard Operating Procedures (“VGFOPS”)
- Propose efficient accounting solutions for business needs and financial processes
- Design and maintain key measures and controls to support a robust E2E accounting compliance framework across all markets
- Translate business needs into qualitative and quantitative measures to tackle crisis
- Provide accounting and process advisory to local markets to ensure common accounting treatments and best practices are implemented
- Co-Sponsoring major transformation projects which require complex accounting change and takes over an advisory and decision-making role for other initiatives requiring judgement on accounting application
- Deep knowledge and oversight of RTR process performance, quality issues and improvement opportunities. Support Group Finops projects that enable and drive process improvements
- Revamp and own a futureproof Finance Operating Model
- Designs and maintains key measures and controls to support a robust E2E accounting compliance framework across all markets
- Create a culture of proactive continuous improvement of processes, systems and people
- Develops robust pool of talents to step into leadership roles
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Technical/professional qualifications:
- Chartered Accountant (Essential)
- +8 years’ experience
- SAP and HFM experience (Desirable)
- SOX, IFRS and local GAAP knowledge
- Very strong accounting experience
- Very strong cooperation, coordination, communication and presentation skills
- Deep knowledge and understanding of operational finance processes, finance operating models.
- Project management
- Willingness to travel
Core competencies, knowledge and experience:
- Leadership skills and experience in managing teams in a complex. dynamic and virtual operating environment
- Deep Technical financial and accounting skills (e.g. financial accounting etc – reference Finance Operating Model)
- Comprehensive understanding of how commercial transactions are translated into accounting processes
- Competent in coaching & moderation and experienced in using agile work methods and tools
- Track record of embracing diversity for better outcomes; skilled in building and steering diverse teams
- Ability to communicate at all levels (Front line to CEO)
- Excellent communication skills to ensure a transparent representation of the results, processes and procedures and to influence multiple stakeholders
