Role Purpose/Business Unit:

 

  • The core purpose of this role is to serve as the pricing Centre of Expertise (COE) across Vodacom South Africa ( VSA), provide key guidance and decision support relating to commercial and pricing propositions, commercial governance, reporting and best practice adoption.
  • The encumbered will be responsible for predictive impact assessments of VSA pricing decisions across the entire base, regular monitoring of these impacts as well as effective business partnering across VSA to ensure that key interventions are actioned to protect margin, mitigate revenue leakage and drive efficiencies. The encumbered is also responsible for adequate monitoring of acquisition and retention (A&R) investments across all product lines, ensuring effective use of funds for the medium to long term.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Define pricing frameworks and strategies per segment, based on supply & demand, costing, regulatory, competition factors, etc. This includes frameworks for products, sales, terminal propositions.
  • Provide valuable pricing insights and analysis for all segments, down to costs and commission payments impact including key customer insights, and modelling purchasing behaviour and elasticity for overall impact analysis.
  • Provide immediate product flashes of launched deals and product propositions with comparative pricing and margin views, working with the commercial team to define relevant options to respond.
  • Provide governance and approval process, assessing impact for all free and promotional activities, maintaining a consistent dashboard on impact of such initiatives on all elements of the closing base, using IBRO (Inflow/Base/Retention/Outflow) categories.
  • Forecasting and prediction models relevant to IBRO volumes, rates, ARPU(A), and mix within each product line, essential to management decision making
  • Enable improved decision making within VSA and identify and drive focused corrective actions, better resource allocation and challenge the divisions to maximise and drive sustainable value and cost efficiency.
  • Centralise company-wide acquisition and retention expenditure through the Commercial CoE, ensuring effective use of funds.
  • Provide goveranance and approval process for all incentives ( including monthly trading incentives), commissions and bonuses in all Trade partner agreements.
  • Provide pricing input to detailed financial models and budget / forecasting processes.
  • Identify process and system gaps and potential fraud soft-spots, customer impacting and revenue leakage scenarios in existing business processes and systems.
  • Own and implement corrective and risk mitigating actions.
  • Regular margin squeeze tests performed to ensure that adequate headroom is maintained between our wholesale and retail propositions.
  • Provide timeous, accurate, consistent and insightful management reporting and performance analysis to senior management aligned to KPI target trackers (PDs), P&L’s, dashboards and customised reporting where required.

Leadership

  • Lead, motivate and develop Commercial teams, ensuring they have clarity of direction and support in prioritising demands.
  • Build a diverse and effective team through recruitment, development and coaching of commercial professionals within divisions and regions.
  • Role model the competencies and behaviours required to deliver value-added decision support.
  • Manage team performance through continuous assessment of skills and capability and addressing performance issues of team members where appropriate. Coach, develop and performance manage people and identify key talent.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

 

  • Actuarial scientist, with minimum of 10 years management and leadership experience.
  • Management Development qualification e.g. MDP / VAEP.
  • Minimum of 15 years experience working in Telecommunications.


Core competencies, knowledge and experience

  • Excellent understanding of the Telecoms industry and key value drivers within the industry and market. Knowledge of the VSA business model is an advantage.
  • Commercial Acumen: The ability to drive value through commercial knowledge, insights and the understanding of the impact of decisions on the business, both short and long term impacts.
  • Financial Analysis: The ability to create insightful causal tracks, using pricing and margin tools, valuation techniques and knowing when to apply them.
  • Decision making support: The ability to understand the full value chain, distinct analytical and systematic thinking and the ability to execute on the strategic plan.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate with clarity and impact, complex commercial concepts and their impacts and dependencies comprehensively at Executive Management Level.
  • Ability to engage with top management to address complex problems and to implement end-to-end process and system solutions.
  • Leadership: Strong personal impact, top percentile people leader results and ability to present to senior leaders (CEOs, Commercial Directors, Industry leaders, Boards, Regulatory bodies etc).
