Role Purpose/Business Unit:

 

The Principal Specialist IFRS & Governance is a key role within VSA FinOps serving as a key decision-making position for ensuring compliance in terms of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), Vodafone Financial Reporting and Governance manual and significant accounting judgements.

 

The role will require strong IFRS technical expertise, IFRS reporting and strong stakeholder management skills. The ideal candidate should also possess excellent analytical and operation capabilities, strong financial skills and be able to critically evaluate transactions for IFRS and statutory reporting and have the proven ability to convey complex assessments in IFRS clearly to management and other members of the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

IFRS:

  • Implementation of new and amended IFRS standards and interpretations as issued by the IASB on a regular basis based on the effective date as well as the implementation date per Vodafone
  • Implementation and monitoring of all IFRS requirements as issued each quarter through the Vodafone Financial Reporting and Governance Manual
  • Strategic accounting judgements
  • IFRS accounting papers for all complex and material transactions and new accounting standards and interpretations
  • Annual financial statements per IFRS disclosure requirements with no material misstatement

 

Interim and year end reporting:  

  • Interim and year end statutory reporting submission, certification compliance to Vodacom Group and VF, external audit process. Applicable to multiple requirements
  • Completion of annual financial statements, review with management and audit with auditors with no material misstatements. Applicable to multiple entities
  • Ensure compliance and no material misstatements with IFRS and related disclosures for all entities 

 

Compliance:

  • Establishes and enforces compliance with IFRS and Vodafone Financial Reporting and Governance manual
  • Ensure adherence to company policy, internal controls, SOX , internal & external audit
  • Manage, improve and develop processes and systems for accounting purposes
  • Implement and drive quality standard frameworks and ensure that high levels of quality accounting are maintained, including alignment with global best practices 

 

Stakeholder management skills:

  • Leadership skills and experience managing members
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Excellent communication skills to ensure transparent representation of IFRS assessment on complex and material transactions

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

 

  • CA (SA), Qualified Chartered Accountant South Africa 
  • Minimum of 7-8 years’ relevant experience, with strong IFRS technical expertise (It must be the ultimate direction in which the candidate wants to specialise)

  • Financial systems especially SAP, Hyperion Financial Management
  • Ability to engage effectively with senior leadership, business partners, auditors
  • Manage expectations from senior leadership, business partners and other areas of the business for accounting deliverables
