The Vodafone Internet of Things (IoT) suite of products and services are designed specifically to meet the needs of new and evolving business verticals, its connection base has grown 20 % per YoY to reach more than 180 million connections at the end of financial year 2023. Vodafone IoT is a leader in the IoT Connectivity Gartner Magic quadrant and has been for 10 consecutive years. To fulfil the Technology requirements of IoT, Vodafone has developed its own IoT Connectivity Management Platform to target the key strategic growth opportunity specifically to meet the needs of Global IoT customers.

Vodafone are also in the process of carving out and separating the IoT Connectivity business to secure additional external investment and maintain our leading position in the industry through the following.

  • Continue accelerating and enhancing our Platform as a Service for Vodafone customers on footprint

  • Launch service proposition in markets that are off Vodafone’s current footprint (US and France)

  • Address long tail lower volume segment through digital self-service platform globally.

 

The successful candidate will be part of an engineering team responsible for design, integration and optimisation of IoT Connectivity solutions, involving both the Network and IT platforms that support Vodafone IoT Services. The main functions will be related to improving and evolving the Connectivity service delivered to Vodafone IoT customers, assuring the proper dimensioning for the IoT platforms, guaranteeing capacity is used efficiently and new services and capabilities are delivered efficiently in time.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, Drive and Deliver the Convergent Charging Service (CCS) on Cloud Transformation program in the Market(s), leading CCS to a Cloud, 5G ready system.  
  • Design and Engineer the solution based on Cloud technologies, such as Containers, Open-Source components (Elasticsearch, Grafana, Kibana, Kafka), CI/CD (Jenkins, GitLab, JMeter). 
  • Design and Engineer the software for complying with state-of-the-art Cyber Security guidelines and requirements 
  • Design and Develop backend applications using technologies like JAVA, Python, bash, Groovy, etc. 
  • Own solution HLD and LLD including IP design. Choose technologies and standards used for the underlying capabilities. Determines dimensioning and configuration data per node. Ensures security requirements are embedded in the design.
  • Drive as Technical Lead the delivery projects ensuring a proper coordination of all involved domains (e.g., Infrastructure, Core Network, Operating Support Systems, Provisioning) 
  • Analyse, together with the business demand areas, the needs, requirements and expectations for the definition and implementation of the different functionalities of the CCS projects and commercial products.

What you’ll do

  • Design, Drive and Deliver the Convergent Charging Service (CCS) 

  • Decide and influence the best software architecture for legacy / 5G charging applications.

  • Design and Implement Capacity Planning for CCS 

  • Lead assigned projects coordinating the involved Technology Providers (aka Vendors) 

  • Define and Structure business requirements in coordination with Business Unit following SAFe / Agile approach. 

Who you are

  • MSc/BSc in Computer Science or similar

  • Fluent in English

  • Analytical ability, creativity and problem-solving

  • Knowledge in charging applications

  • Experience in SOAP, Diameter, Restful API appreciated

  • Cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) deployment, Kubernetes

  • Charging and Rating Services and Digital Services experience

  • DevOps process and tools (Harbor, Helm, Jenkins, GitLab, JMeter)

  • Programming skills and experience

  • Experience in IT projects delivery.

 

Desirable knowledge/experience:

  • IoT platforms

  • Technical expertise on IT stack (backend and frontend) and BSS desirable

  • Automotive connectivity solutions

  • Experience designing virtualised or cloud architectures, cloud-native containerised microservices and driven by open APIs.
