What you’ll do
Lead the activities of the regional engineering delivery team within Data Core Engineering, focusing on the countries of the respective cluster (UK and Ireland). Being accountable for high- and low-level design document creation, configuration and implementation and optimisation of multiple network elements of the Mobile Data Core network (PCRF, SGSN/MME, SPGW, Radius, DPI, MSP, IWF, DNS, AAA, etc.).
With focus on a specific area of competence in PCRF / PCF policy control functions for mobile services, lead and manage all the engagement with relevant local stakeholders, in particular Technology Operations and other local teams for the implementation of network capacity and lifecycle management; service configuration / MOP activities (and handover to Operations for implementation); special projects, new product / service impact assessments and support to Operations during network incidents.
Be the focal technical lead for optimisation activities that can improve the efficiency of the Mobile Data Core Network and subsequent customer experience and be directly involved in performance analysis and improvements plans devised as necessary.
Key Accountabilities & Decision Ownership:
- With focus on a specific area of competence, contribute to the implementation of the Data Core Network Evolution Plan in the local countries:
- Lead the alignment and steer the local engineering implementation in the cluster countries to the regional strategy and roadmap.
- Report to planning teams the local implementation progress and gaps towards network plan.
- Lead the definition and maintenance of the country Data Core Low Level Design, in line with Planning Design and Dimensioning guidelines and directives for the region.
- Define the detailed configuration to be applied (parametrisation, licence configuration, etc.):
- Adjusting the detail to its local applicability in the cluster countries.
- Support Planning, Design and Dimensioning in local testing activities.
- Direct management of the interface with regional and local in-country Operations teams:
- Defining, planning and scheduling Data Core network activities and interventions.
- Being accountable for those activities and analysing/reporting relevant issues concerning risk, cost/benefit, effectiveness and efficiency.
- Supporting required Engineering efforts in case of emergencies related to Data Core networks.
- Support to troubleshooting activities.
- Supporting in country teams of Local Markets included in the cluster, facing important country related issues and for projects status updating.
- Support the Engineering team dealing with Data Core networks in the cluster countries:
- Being accountable for optimisation activities.
- Support to local demand initiatives.
- Engaging with relevant local stakeholders.
- Contribute to the Data Core budget execution in the cluster countries and active promotion of benchmarking across countries in the cluster, aligning with best applied practises and harmonising design wherever possible.
Who you are
- Deep knowledge of architecture and protocols in a Mobile Data Core Network – specifically PCRF / PCF (and associated management infrastructure), preferably Oracle and Ericsson.
- Sensitivity to operational and execution challenges and attitude to troubleshooting and problem solving.
- End to end visibility and comprehension of any issues in the specific countries of the cluster.
- Lead the identification of opportunities for in country improvements within Data Core in line with regional strategy, analysing potential risks of that strategy and supporting the Data Core Engineering Planning, Design and Dimensioning team to adjust/improve the plan if needed.
- Strong established relationships with key stakeholders in the cluster countries, namely with local Operational and commercial/demand teams and stakeholders and infrastructure vendors.
- Team working and sharing of know-how with local team and the Data Core Planning, Design and Dimensioning team.
Must have Technical / Professional Qualifications & Capabilities:
- Solid knowledge of network architecture and design and Mobile Data Core network experience.
- Knowledge and experience of the design, integration, test and deployment of Network Function Virtualisation Infrastructure (NFVi) and virtual network function applications within the Telecommunications (preferably mobile network) industry.
- Operations experience desirable.
- Strong performance & customer experience focus.
- Results oriented.
- Troubleshooting capability and a problem-solving attitude.
- Exposure to operational environments and projects.
- Established networking in the countries of the cluster.
- Mobile Data Network service performance management knowledge and or proven experience.
- Established networking or closeness with other engineering domains which impact / influence performance, such as transmission, radio, etc.
- University degree in Telecommunications or similar / suitable active professional experience.
