Position characteristics

  • The Site reliability engineering team is a vital part of our Application Operations department, working closley with our software Engineering squads that are developing cloud based applications. As we expand our Digital Systems into AWS cloud and develop more complex microservices architecture we are seaking an experienced SRE to build the operations layer required to ensure avalability, performance and automation to this important part of our business.

What will you do here?

  • Run the production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health
  • Run and utilise the non-production environments to ensure thorough preparedness of the applications for smoth rollouts and opeartions in production
  • Build software and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications
  • Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions
  • Provide primary operational support and engineering for multiple large distributed software application

Responsibilities

  • Analyse and fine tune systems to ensure best performance, Taking a proactive approach to spotting problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks
  • With the wider SRE and AO team accepts responsibility for the operational performance of allocated systems.
  • Lead and mentor other SREs and help grow internal knowledge and skill of team and wider AO department in the dicipline of SRE
  • Partner with development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures
  • Take an active role and participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning to promote and ensure required observability and ease of future operations.
  • Create sustainable systems and services through automation, uplifts, smart alerting and similar
  • Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service level objectives
  • Due to the 24/7 operations role is part of the work on calls, over time and emergency.

Characteristics

  • Domain skills
  • Understand monitoring and performance metrics to ensure availability and performance of cloud based applications
  • Experience with container management platforms (Kubernetes), ideally operated in cloud environments (AWS)
  • Familiar with CICD principles and tools, Experience with autmation and infrastrucutre as code (Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Azure Pipelines and similar)
  • Aquanted with DevOps methodology
  • Programming fundamentals with one or more high level languages (Java, JavaScript, Python) considered as an advantage
  • People skills
  • Tendancy toward team leadership and ability to mentor / lead other SREs
  • Good relationship with stakeholders having the ability to negotiate and build consensus
  • Excellent communicator with stakeholders, customers and the development team
