Role Purpose/Business Unit:

 

To lead the implementation and support of a centralized core configuration service for Vodacom’s international roaming partners by ensuring accurate and efficient setup, testing, and maintenance of core network elements across multiple technologies and vendors. This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end IREG testing lifecycle, providing expert-level support to global roaming partners, and maintaining the integrity of roaming databases across platforms such as HLR/HSS, VLR/MME, SGSN/SGW, GGSN/PGW, DNS, STP, GLR, NTAS, PCRF and DRA. The Specialist also drives automation initiatives through RPA development, translating business requirements into scalable processes that enhance operational efficiency. With a high level of technical expertise and cross-functional collaboration, the role ensures optimal network quality, availability, and customer experience across Vodacom’s international roaming footprint.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

1.   Testing of services: 2G, 3G, GPRS, UMTS, MMS, SMS, LTE, 5G and VoLTE voice and data on existing and new networks. Applicable for prepaid and post-paid services
2.  Provide support to all roaming partners around the world pre and post IREG testing period. Provide detailed information on products, services, and call flows
3.   Plan and implement roaming partner databases on all core network entities HLR’s/HSS’s, VLR’s/MME’s/MSS’s, SGSN’s/SGW’s, CSG, STP’s, NTAS’s, PGW’s and DRA’s. On multiple vendors Siemens, Nokia, Huawei and Cisco.
4.   High level of functional understanding of all core network elements in the network including. Ensuring that roaming databases are current and up to date. Verify current database for correctness and performing audits
5.   RPA development. Convert business requirement and daily tasks into processes that automate tasks and functions. Create, review and update documentation, diagrams, write code and provide support. Able to follow and understand someone else’s code and error logs

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

 

•    Matric essential
•    Degree /3 Year National Diploma in Electrical Engineering /Information Technology /Computer Science is essential.
•    Completion of Platform Programme is advantageous.
•    At least 3 - 5 years work experience within Telecommunications or IT – Essential.
•    A minimum 3 years’ experience in Core Networks Elements and international roaming – Essential
•    At least 3 years proven working experience using the Agile methodology
•    3 Years’ Experience on GSM, UMTS, LTE and 5G knowledge (advantageous).

•    In-depth knowledge of mobile networks, SCCP, MAP, GTP, IP, CAP protocols and Diameter is essential
•    Knowledge of Mobileum Site system, setting up test cases and reporting  
•    Knowledge of the Agile methodology 
•    Knowledge of UiPath, Resolve, Visual Basic and Python; development and documentation would be an advantage
•    Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite essential
