Manager Data Center and Access Planning
Role purpose
The purpose of this role is to ensure that the passive infrastructure remains operational at its best efficiency level to meet the availability standard set by the active infrastructure owners. Additionally, the passive infrastructure Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that the passive infrastructure accommodates the planned growth of the active network and adheres to the health and safety standards.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership:
• Maintaining a database of passive infrastructure assets for all the network sites. The database should include the following information about the asset: technical specifications, age, health and
• Consult the active network equipment owners to understand their future needs and plan the passive infrastructure accordingly.
• Plan the passive infrastructure replacement and new deployment projects based on the network growth and existing equipment conditions. The passive infrastructure planning should also consider the compliance with blueprint design to meet resilience, energy efficiency and net zero criteria.
• Prepare the passive infrastructure project budget and operational impact. Establish the relationship between the budget and operational impact and document the budget motivation to get management buy in
• Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, safety guidelines and resources to ensure a successful completion of the project.
• Prepare the scope of work for passive infrastructure projects and communicate them to the Project team
• Assess the impact of the passive infrastructure projects after completion and continuously provide inputs on the design blueprint improvement
• Leads local market, review and update the local policies & Procedure; related to datacentres, access sites, passive infrastructure
Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:
• 5+ years in Telecom Passive Infrastructure planning and/or operation
• Experience with budget preparation and motivation.
• Experience with datacentre power and cooling systems dimensioning
• Strong knowledge of active telecom infrastructure network
• Proficient in data analytics using BI systems such tableau and Power BI
• Strong understanding of power and cooling system.
• Experience in telecom infrastructure datacentre and access site design,
• Experience with smart infrastructure management systems such as DCIM, BMS, etc
• Possess the necessary skills to develop and present business case.
Must have technical / professional qualifications:
• Degree in Engineering/technical qualification (preferably electrical engineering) non-negotiable.
• Additional degree or formal certification on Business or management will be a plus
Budget owned:
Local market energy and data center OPEX and CAPEX
Key performance indicators:
• Meeting the deadline of the budget preparation and project scoping
• Compliance of existing passive infrastructure with the design Vodacom blueprint
• Keeping the database of passive infrastructure assess up to date.
