Role Purpose/Business Unit:

 

  • Supports the Transmission networks across all Vodacom operations in Africa.
  • This includes strategy, standards and guidelines, design, deployment, to align with Vodacom Technology strategy, optimising Capex and Opex, and maintaining superior network quality.

Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Manage the design of fixed access fibre optic networks (FTTH, FTTB).
  • Initiate and analyse capacity requirements and traffic forecasts to ensure network scalability and reliability for all Vodacom markets.
  • Oversee transport network asset inventory and documentation management.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform network audits and recommend improvements.
  • Provide budgeting support and monitor Capex and Opex Transmission budget roll-out for the Vodacom markets.
  • Prepare reports for Vodafone, Vodacom Group EXCO, ARCC, RMC, and other SLT committees.
  • Act as a single point of contact for Group Networks on Transmission-related network activities or enquires.
  • Implement the Technology Resilience policy as it relates to the Transmission networks across Vodacom markets.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders and vendors to ensure optimal network deployment and performance.
  • Support mergers and acquisitions, new business development, and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure proper traffic and capacity engineering and management as it relates to the Transmission networks.
  • Provide engineering and operations support for all Transmission technologies, including IP networks, backhaul, microwave, satellite, and fibre networks.
  • Manage partnerships with strategic vendors, third party operators, partners and organizations.
  • Support SCM- and VPC-led group RFPs for Transmission networks.
  • Liaise and align with Vodafone Network Strategy and Architecture teams
  • Lead a team of technical experts in transmission design, planning, deployment, and network quality.
  • Set strategy, structure, plans, and objectives for the transmission domain within the Tech 2030 strategy.
  • Oversee the end-to-end architecture, design and planning of transport and backhaul network for fixed and mobile networks.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • 4-year relevant Degree in Electronic Engineering (essential)
  • Project Management qualification (desirable)
  • Registered Professional Engineer (recommended)
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in technical Transport Network Planning and Operations (essential)
  • 7 - 10 years Managerial experience (Essential)

  • Experience with transmission systems (microwave, fibre, satellite, SDH, DWDM, IP/MPLS, Ethernet)
  • Proficiency in fixed network planning tools
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and licensing
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage relationships effectively
