Role Purpose/Business Unit:
The Vodacom Group has a number of Operating companies across Africa. This role reports to the Vodacom information Officer and forms part of the Vodacom Information Systems senior leadership team. It is one of the key interfaces between Vodacom Group and its Markets. The main stakeholders include the Vodacom Chief Commercial Officer and his/her leadership team, Market Managing Directors, and Market Chief Technology/Information Officers.
The incumbent, as a member of D&IT senior leadership team, is responsible for applying expertise across one or more D&IT Domains e.g. IT Operation and quality management, Tooling and IT4IT, Corporate IT, Vodafone Business IT, Demand management and ways of working, etc. Main objectives of a domain leader are to articulate strategy for their own domain/s including assessment of the market’s maturity level, drive standardization and leverage scale across markets, define key suppliers for the domain/s. specify key domains’ OKRs, build communities of practice, owns KPIs and major programs reporting and ensure alignment with Vodacom and in turn Vodafone group Technology strategies.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Define strategy for his/her Digital and IT domain/s
- Define and Improve Technology OKRs within his/her domain/s that will drive maximum support to business growth and differentiation.
- Spot opportunities for leveraging scale across the markets within his/her domain/s by driving standardization agenda and implementing best practices/guardrails across markets.
- Accountable for domain/s’ target architecture with needed flexibility to cater for different markets local environments, regulations and budget limitations, definition of domains’ suppliers and sourcing strategies.
- Drive the vision for efficiency across his/her domain/s including the use of technology, automation and AI with clear definition of ROI on investment.
- Create community of practices of similar skills and capabilities across the markets. Ensure regular meetings and meaningful sharing of best practices linked to OKRs improvement.
- Spot possible opportunities for growing talents within his domain and creating pan African career opportunities for them as per the need
- Ensure the right governance in place to follow up on Mega programs implemented by the different markets to achieve domain/s’ strategy
- Reporting of domains KPIs and Ensure markets have the required improvement plans when needed.
- Work closely with commercial teams when relevant to improve agile practices and time to market.
- Drive Innovation pilots across domain. Follow up on scaling up plans and ROI of technology investment.
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Must have technical / professional qualifications:
- An advanced Telecommunications or Information Technology or similar degree is essential
- An MBA will be advantageous
- Minimum 15 years’ experience working in Telecommunications and IT.
- Minimum 10 years management and leadership experience in IT Operations & Development, including:
- Technology security, risk management, business continuity management and compliance.
Core competencies, knowledge and experience:
- Strong architectural understanding of the Digital and IT environment in a Telco
- Knowledge of frameworks used in IT and Telco e.g. eTOM, ITIL
- Sound understanding of Budget planning and life cycle management within Teclo environment.
- Forward thinker in areas such as Cloud Engineering, Analytics and AI, DevXOps, scalable agile, etc.
- Risk Management in a technology environment
- Technology Security Management
- Strong Programme and Project management skills
- Familiar with working in a matrix organization and deliver results through peer leadership
- Ability to succinctly express key concepts for C-suit and board delivery and understanding
