Principal Specialist: International Network Infrastructure

Role Purpose/Business Unit:
- Plan, implement, and operate resilient international connectivity with sufficient capacity between the Vodacom International Network Points of Presence (POPs) in the UK, Europe and Vodacom OPCOs in Africa.
- Assist to manage Vodacom’s investments in existing submarine cable systems, ongoing upgrades to terrestrial extensions and international network infrastructure, and resilience improvements using geographical diverse routes to ensure operational service uptime targets are met.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Coordinate forecasts of all international bandwidth demand in Vodacom Group and coordinate the procurement of such in most cost-effective manner
• Create and manage an International Capacity and Circuit database to ensure sufficient capacity
• Contribute to the International Connectivity Strategy, Capacity Plan and long-term Sourcing Framework for all Vodacom OPCOs, based on traffic projections
• Review OPCO International Network efficiency and resilience, recommend improvement initiatives and monitor implementation on ongoing basis
• Assist to manage investments in new cable systems and upgrades on existing systems (business cases, approvals, representation on cable consortiums)
• Coordinate international capacity inventory, activations & de-activations and perform route management between International Network nodes
• Review and manage agreements
• Contribute to International Network budgets, process payments and identify cost efficiency improvements
• Provide input to and manage Recovery and Restoration Plans for Vodacom international traffic
• Provide support to Vodacom OPCOs, Wholesale and Enterprise units, and provide input to capacity costing on International Connectivity
• Participate in the development of regional and cross–border transmission networks
• Contribute and refine Joint Operating Model with Vodafone and amongst OPCOs
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
• 4-year relevant degree in Engineering (Essential)
• Qualification in Project Management (Recommended)
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Subsea Technology (Essential)
Core competencies, knowledge and experience:
• In-depth knowledge of the submarine telecoms industry, technology and how cable consortium are structures and managed
• Well-developed commercial and financial principles related to business plans, contracts, quotations and negotiations
• Wholesale telecoms business
• Sound understanding of the law of contract and telecommunication regulations
• Interpersonal skills, Rational thinking, Analytical skills, Negotiation skills, Presentation skills, Communication skills, Problem solving skills
