Role Purpose/Business Unit:

 

We are seeking an experienced Senior Specialist Technical Delivery to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in driving the success of our ETL development projects, with a strong focus on DataStage. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in data analysis, business intelligence, data warehousing, and stakeholder management.
 

Your responsibilities will include:

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • ETL Processes: Efficient and optimized ETL processes using IBM DataStage and other tools.
  • Data Analysis Reports: Comprehensive data analysis reports that support business intelligence initiatives.
  • BI Solutions: Enhanced reporting solutions that provide actionable business insights.
  • Data Warehousing: Well-architected and maintained data warehousing solutions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Regular updates and alignment with business objectives through effective stakeholder management.
  • Team Development: Improved skills and performance of junior team members through mentorship and guidance.
  • Project Deliverables: Timely and successful completion of ETL development projects

 

Service Operations:

  • Managing incidents and problems across DE applications.
  • Ensuring service delivery, capacity, performance, and availability.
  • Overseeing change management and service transitions.


Operational Health and Capacity Management:

  • Monitoring system and application health.
  • Managing ASICS controls, reviews, and approvals.
  • Coordinating monthly KPI/KASM Reporting.
  • Driving Continual Service Improvement initiatives.


In addition to these, the role also involves critical functions in the DevOps and Data Platforms practice, aligning with the responsibilities of a Release Manager. 
These include coordination with teams, risk management, progress monitoring, and collaboration with release engineers.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

 

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in application support roles is often required.
  • 3-year Diploma or bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is essential.
  • Grade 12 essential.
  • Certifications Advantageous
  • Knowledge of data warehouse concepts
    • Physical database design
    • Data Transformation
    • Architecture
  • Able to understand: 
    • Data modelling
    • ETL Architecture and Design
    • Evaluate and construct. 
    • SQL scripts


These skills and experiences are crucial for ensuring that the Senior Specialist can effectively manage the responsibilities associated with the role, such as audits, technology resilience, service operations, and continual service improvement initiatives.

Technical Skills:

  • ETL Development: Minimum of 7 years in ETL development, with significant experience in IBM DataStage.
  • Data Analysis: Proficiency in data analysis, business intelligence tools, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Database Management: Expertise in SQL and database management systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL).
  • ETL Tools: Experience with other ETL tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend, SSIS).
  • Scripting Languages: Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell scripting).
  • Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure,GCP, AWS) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Data Modeling: Understanding of data modeling and data architecture principles.
  • Version Control: Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Agile Methodologies: Knowledge of Agile methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).

 


Soft Skills:

  • Communication: Effective communication with users and team members to resolve support issues.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of leading technical teams and managing complex projects.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Risk Management: Ability to identify and manage risks that could impact project scope and quality.
  • Project Management: Skills in managing projects, ensuring they meet deadlines and budget constraints.
    • 1+ year’s working experience in an Agile Delivery Team will be advantageous.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent team working, interpersonal and facilitation skills in multi-functional team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation abilities
  • Analytical and problem solving and logical thinking skills.
  • Ability to think outside of the norm and challenge the status quo by providing innovative alternatives
  • Ability to present information and argue points.
  • Organized, adaptable, a self-starter, highly motivated by challenge, and a team player
